SC to SB Transfer

Right now I am in my second year at UCSC. The English program here isn't that great so I applied to UCSB and UCB for Fall 2012...I am so anxious to hear back already! SB is my first choice so if there are any SB students who can give me input on my chances I would really appreciate it.

Major: Comparative Lit
GPA: 3.5
Major GPA: 3.75
Lower-divs for SC lit major will be completed by the end of this year, but SB has different reqs so I don't know what's up with that
Not applying for financial aid if that makes a difference

Why would you not apply for financial aid? That’s dumb. You might qualify for something. You could even get a scholarship with your g.p.a automatically just from filling out the FAFSA and sending it to your school.

My parents income doesn’t qualify me for financial aid. I applied last year and got nothing.

I think you definitely have a good chance. I had two friends that transferred from SC to SB last year. UC transfers aren’t as difficult as they say. Just wondering, what did you dislike about SC?

Edit: And you don’t need to finish all your pre-reqs to be able to transfer. I’m an intercampus transfer and I didn’t finish all of mine.

That’s a relief to hear, thanks.

UCSC just isn’t a good fit for me personally. It’s a science-oriented school, and the lit program here just kinds sucks. I’ve had a really hard time getting into the classes I need because everything is so impacted. I also grew up in this area, and want a change of scenery.

For need based. But you might still be eligible for merit aid if you qualify. You should apply anyway.

@mikali do you think the history department is impacted? is it going to be hard for me to get classes?

I don’t think history is impacted, but I can’t say for sure. From my experience, most intro level classes (lectures with 100+ students) are hard to get into.

lame. my ccc counselor is a banana slug alumni and she told me that ucsc would rather have history majors do their history courses at ucsc… so i’ve only done 2/12. I bet its going to be really hard to get those classes if I go there.

well the majority of those classes probably have to be upper-division courses anyways, right? so if you can finish your lower-divs at cc you should be alright.

yeah that’s true. I still need about 4 lower division though

and this is my last semester so I wont be able to take any more classes prior to transferring

You can look on UCSC’s website and figure out which quarters the courses you need are offered. You’re can probably finish the lower-divs in the first year after you transfer, and take upper-divs as well. Are you done with all your GE?

We have a thread about UC to UC transfers

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1215914-2012-uc-uc-transfer-thread.html?highlight=intercampus

Hope it helps! There aren’t that many people going from UC to UC so the thread might not be as active as others, but you can see our general stats and where we are applying to

yeah i’m done with ge. i’m just worried about getting those other 10 classes that I need. hope I can do it in two years.

If you’re finished with your GE and only have 10 classes two years should be more than enough time. There’s 3 quarters per year and you can take 3 classes (at least) per quarter.

@thecutiedisease I forgot to ask, do you know your friends majors and GPAs who transferred from SC?

im confused is compar lit. actually english? cus when i applied to sc there was no english major.

UCSC’s english major is just ‘literature’. And within the department you have to chose a focus.
