So today i was accepted into USC (Yay!) although my admissions letter said I was admitted to the school of arts and sciences though my first choice was the School of Cinematic Arts (production major). In the admissions packet, however, i received a letter saying that SCA has not finished reviewing applications and I will be notified when they make their decision, until then, I am a undecided major at Arts and Sciences.

So my questions are:

Did anyone receive acceptance into SCA yet?

When do you think I will hear back from SCA?

I was accepted into the School of Cinematic Arts and my major was for "Cinema-Television" I'm assuming this means production. Don't lose hope though, no decision is final until April.

thejobe, your situation is interesting and sort of unique from what we've seen here on cc the past two or so years. It may just be that your stats and essays, etc, are so compelling to your adcom in CLAS that they want you badly--hence the early acceptance and possible consideration for a big merit award. However, the SCA has a very limited number of Trustee and Pres scholarships to hand out, so perhaps you will be admitted to SCA in their regular pool. I hope so! This is the first time I recall a student getting that mixed a message, but we hear USC adcom and SCA admissions are separate processes. Please let us know how you do as time goes on. Best of luck.

I had the same thought as madbean - they wanted to reel you in early, and perhaps with a scholarship interview. So congrats on that! I've heard of kids in past years getting admitted to USC first and SCA quite a bit later, but I don't think the regular admission was this early. Hope you hear soon from SCA.

qzar When you applied to SCA what was it that you believe got you to be accepted over everyone else?

Did you have any hooks? Alumni, money, sleep with anyone on the admissions board? Cause I might consider that.

Seriously though. I am curious what you think seperated you. I am really trying my best to get into USC and I need every ounce of support I can manage to rangle up. Please.

You might want to go back and look through last year's accepted students to see when the SCA admissions packets started arriving. A very few get early letters and interviews for the major scholarships but I don't recall a lot of waves of acceptances--more like a long wait until the mid-or-end of March.

re: when admissions packets arrived.
My son (current freshman in SCA, production) got his packet on March 21, 2008, a Good Friday indeed.

We never did figure out how they sort through things, but a week or 2 before that, he got a phone call from a prof on the admissions committee. They had a nice chat, then radio silence until the proverbial fat envelope arrived.

thejobe: good luck. I would think they're still figuring out who's in the film school. Though FWIW, I don't think my son got the arts and sciences acceptance beforehand. Keep hoping!
