I was given an offer to be in a National Crew less than a week before it was going to start. This was the assignment:
The Official Name of Your Crew:
NH Roving Crew 2017
Crew Dates:
Start Date: 7/2/2017
End Date: 7/23/2017
Where You Will Serve:
This position is in partnership with Student Conservation Association and will take place in NH. SCA’s Charlestown Campus and the three plus mile trail network on the property.
Crew may camp at SCA Charlestown
Crew Mailing Address:
689 River Rd.
Charlestown, NH 03603
What You Will Be Doing:
This crew will spend time working on a number of different projects and sites throughout southwest New Hampshire.
For the first week, crew members will spend their time on SCA’s Charlestown campus creating model structures and drainage solutions for future crews to learn from.
The second week will be spent at the Lempster Community School clearing existing trail and building new trail to help establish nature-education opportunities for the students.
The third week will be spent working for the Sullivan County Conservation District, working on repairing and re-establishing a grown-in trail, possibly including some erosion control structures.
I already had plans for these weeks by then and found the assignment pretty unexciting (frontcountry and a lot of time inside), so I declined the offer. Just thought I would share my experience.
