SCAD or Massart?

Hey so I got accepted to both SCAD and Massart and I am having trouble deciding?

Congrats! Have you visited either? Do you know what you want to major in?
My daughter also just got into both… but she also got into Pratt and that is her first choice. For her, the feel of the campus, location, and dept. presentation influenced her decision. I think, if she didn’t get into Pratt, MassArt would have been her 2nd choice. When we visited SCAD, it felt a bit too corporate and polished and students all looked like sleep deprived zombies.

No, I have not visited either yet, I want to major in Illustration, also congrats to your daughter I’m waiting for a decision from pratt but I don’t believe I will be getting in so I am trying to choose between the two. I live on the shore and everyone keeps saying that I would hate Massachusetts but I completely disagree, but at the same time when I first applied to colleges SCAD was my dream school.

What shore do you live on? Can you afford either school without excessive loans?

My son is trying to choose between art schools and we received some marketing materials from SCAD with his acceptance. On the cover of one brochure are two girls dressed for yoga, a jock looking white guy in the background, and a woman of color dressed in a cashier’s uniform. Is this a satire or does it represent what the campus is like? All the marketing materials were in the same vein.

We were on campus for D’s audition this fall. It’s an arts school. Lots of diversity.

Forgot to mention. D attends a very diverse performing arts HS (minority as a white, straight girl). She is very sensitive to diversity. Really wants to continue in that environment. SCAD made her feel comfortable (probably less diverse than her HS but plenty diverse).

My d transferred this year to SCAD. She is a BFA Performing Arts major . It is definitely an art school but she loves the diversity that comes with it and the school.

On that score alone, I’d go for MassArt. My son its there and is very happy. Excellent profs who really care. Perfect student-friendly location. Boston is amazing.
