<p>My cousin went to SCAD for film and transferred to Temple for film. SCAD was a tremendous waste of money.</p>

<p>It’s very good after the top top ones like NYU, USC, UCLA, FSU, etc.</p>
<p>Temple is a very good school. Moreover, the art program was originally part of the Tyler School of Art,which was a very well recognized stand-alone art school. Thus, you are getting the equivalent of a stand alone art school within the confines of a university.</p>
<p>My only gripe with Temple is the location of the school. It is in a very unsavory area.</p>

<p>Temple is an urban campus, not dissimilar from many others like U of Chicago, UPenn, Johns Hopkins. If you have common sense, Temple is as safe as any other urban school. It actually has a campus feel, unlike George Washington U or U of Pittsburgh. Tyler School of Art is an excellent art school. Contact them, visit the campus, and see if it’s right for you. This forum can only give personal opinions that may not agree with yours.</p>
<p>We visited and the new arts building is fantastic. S liked the urban, gritty feel but did say that being in such a nice building looking down (literally from the painting studios) onto some of the most impoverished areas in the mid-atlantic could be daunting. He ended up not applying because the fit wasn’t right, and I was a little relieved that I didn’t have to imagine him walking home from the studio at 3am. That being said, he applied to MICA in Baltimore and VCU in Richmond–similarly located in a challenging urban environment. What I appreciated at Temple was that they try hard to have the University integrate with the neighborhood but place student safety as the highest priority. the guide told us about all night shuttles for students, emergency telephones, etc. The guide was a small-build young woman who lived off campus and said she had never had a problem but she was not foolhardy and always took a shuttle after 11 pm partly because she was usually too tired to walk the 8 blocks to her house. VCU is also very safety conscious but apparently has had less success protecting students because their campus is much more spread out accross the city.</p>
