Well, some of you may have heard me whining about my bad math score... I still haven't given up on finding a loophole.

On math, I got a total of 15 wrong and one omitted. That's like a 31/50 raw right? In my SSAT book, it says that's about a 698-700 scaled. But it says I got a 695. Do they curve this or something? Thanks.

First of all, the SSAT books are never completely right. Second of all, are you really that intent on finding out where the 3 points went? That would most likely change your percentile grade about .5-1%. Do you think a school will look at a 67% and say “wow that’s awful” and then look at a 68% and say “yeah that’s a lot better”. It honestly doesn’t matter.

heps: Please share Gemma’s assessment of your performance with your parents and retake the test. If you truly believe $150 overrides a $200,000 expense (even with financial aid, that’s still the cost), you’ve lost your perspective. Prove to yourself you can do better and that the 48% is an anomaly.

heps1996, it does no good to complain about the test’s scaling. If you think you can do better, then take the test again. That’s only way you can change your SSAT percentile in math.

Argh, I know, I’m spending way too much time complaining to people about this and not actually doing anything to fix it, I just don’t know how I can talk to my parents… I feel like if I try to bring up something I found out on CC they’ll question the validity of the statement because I got it over the internet, and/or make fun of me for spending time on the site in the first place… We’ll see how it goes I guess… >_<

Perhaps you’re anticipating trouble without cause.

There’s an easy solution. The low math score might not be an issue, but it depends on your list of schools. Call a few and ask what percentile they prefer to see on the SSAT subtests. The admissions officers will be able to answer this question. The people who run the office will be able to answer this question.

If they say, “we like to see a score over 80%, (or 70%, etc.),” then you are not approaching your parents with information gathered solely from the internet.

And that’s the good thing about standby registration - it’s open through next week. So Heps can call the AOs after the offices open again on Monday.

But if you do this, please try to find a center that will have space. It would be a pity to pay for the registration and then still not be able to take the test.
