Well, I think most CCers would qualify to the programs/recognitions like: Who's who and what not. The problem is I'm not sure if these are scams or not. Now, I just recieved another similar "commendation" or "honor" nomination from National Honor Roll. They promise the world if you get selected. For example (taken straight from the letter):

"National Honor Roll has set aside $25,000 to be shared among 25 of its qualifying inductess from the 2004/2005 school year. As a member your child is entitled to compete for one of these "National Honor Roll Awards For Academic Achievement. * Students Name* could be the recipient of one of these scholarships!

Our College Admissions Notification Service will be happy to send letters announcing * Students Name* 's induction into the National Honor Roll, along with * Students Name*'s full bioggraphy, to the admissions offices of the colleges and universities that * Students Name* chooses.

The governor of your state, your US senators, and local newspapers will also be advised fo your child's status. this is a complimentary service availbae exclusive to honorees. "

The form you have to complete doesn't require any essays, its really simple for such an "honorable" award so that makes me suspect. Also, although you can still participate without cordering one of those books, the fact that they sell them is suspicious ($59.95)?

So CCers can u verify these suspicions if you know for sure and add on to the list others that you know or suspect.

like this :

LIST OF SCAMS
1. who's who
2. National Honor Roll?
*3. Add Another Scam *
4.
5. .. and so on

Thanks, this should be a big help to any one else in the doubt.

Yea, I got recommended for the All-American Scholar by my counselor, but it sounds just like the National Honor Roll thingi. Anyone know if this is a scam?

michael_pham, yea, I thiought that would be it, but I was just wondering how they involve these senators, and governors. Do the colleges even consider it a merit if you become one of the 25 indcutees? They have a Student Nomination Standards Commitee composed of president's or retired deans of colleges and a lecturer from Columbia. So that's why I wasn't sure. Has anyone here ever been one of the 25 qualifiers?

Taegukgi88, yea, All-American Scholar sounds a lot like National Honor Roll, but it has more money and your faculty has to nominate you, so I don' t know about that. Maybe Shrek2004 is right.

So list so far:
1. Who's Who
2. National Honor Roll? (Still not sure)
3. College Partnership?

I don't think that Who's Who is a scam because I was just moved onto the semi-finalist section for the scholarship and hopefully I get it! I am also in the National Honor Roll and I received two letters from my state senators and publications in my local papers for both the Who's Who and the National Honor Roll. I haven't had to pay for anything and have gotten recognition from both.

I got something from my science and english teachers the other day, USA ACHIEVEMENT ACADEMY Science and English merit awards or something like that. I wasn't sure if it was a scam or not, I sent my stuff but didn't have to pay for anything but they were selling books for sixty dollars.
