Lately, I’ve been getting calls from various area codes. When I don’t answer and my answering machine picks up, a voice (which sounds like a recording) says “good bye.” I think all the calls are from the same entity, because each time I get the same “good bye.” Afer this happened several times, I called back and got a recorded message that saId something like “for English please push X.” I just hung up. I didn’t talk to anyone.
Whatever this is is now doing this 2 or 3 times a day, every day. I’ve no idea why.
Also, anyone else getting scam crap as messages on their cell phones?? I’ve been “told” that several accounts of mine have been put on hold. Except…I don’t have those accounts!
Yup got one last night. It was something with my account with Coin Base. I don’t have such an account. At least they’re easy enough to recognize as a scam. The automated foreign voice doesn’t hurt either.
I get these, sometimes several times a day. Never going to click on your link to "get my account off hold. " I block them and report as spam, not that that does anything.
Yesterday I received a voice message on my cell phone asking me to call about the money that I owe the court. I have never been to court. The call was blocked as spam, but the person was allowed to leave a message. Crazy.
Oh yes, the scam e-mails and calls about accounts I don’t have, nor have ever had, roll in daily - I love this one from Bank Of. America. (Yes, how it was spelled) - when I reviewed the “sender” it’s pure BS…another I’ve now sent to “spam” folder -
I contacted QuickBooks after I got taken by a scammer who represented himself as an employee of the company offering phone support for a fee. When I realized it was a scam, I notified my credit card company and they reversed the charge. I called QuickBooks and they said they would look into it. Well, the phone number is still valid and this guy, “Peter,” actually called me not that long ago to offer his services again! I told him I’d told QuickBooks about him and hung up. Ugh. So I don’t have much faith that contacting companies helps.
Not me but a friend of mine- her daughter was moving from one NYC apartment to another. She contacted a few moving companies for prices. She decided on Company A.
Moving day arrives and moving men show up, and swiftly get her stuff in the truck… turns out this was Company B and she did not hire them. SCAM!! They had her moving info from the estimate and just showed up to do the job and she didn’t think to check credentials…mind you, this young lady is an attorney… this could happen to anyone!
Of course Company A arrived about an hour later. Long story short, she was on the hook for BOTH companies’ time & services.
I’ve been getting a slew of these for the last several weeks. They are texts saying everything from Amazon to Netflix to PayPal has been “put on hold”. I just delete without looking but it’s irritating.
Beyond the “scam” aspect is the OMG factor! Sorry my mind is racing at the thoughts of how badly this could have turned out for your daughter @OceanAir!
Tried that in multiple forms with or without dashes, etc. No luck. Sent to usual sites with request for email to send free results or asking for trial cost. The change is the email request.
