Goodness, these scammers are recycling old tricks. Back in 2018, our entire group at work got these scam emails…

I got the Prime expiring soon, too. I ignored it cuz I didn’t have the time to check. Thanks for letting me know it was a scam

I got an email about a Capital One settlement due to their big privacy breach. I remember filing a claim so I think it’s legitimate but I will sure call the number on the back of my card first! If it’s true, we’ll get about $430!

Not me or anyone I know, but jeez – how stupid do you have to be??

I’m rather impressed that the local police department…

a) tackled that at all, and clearly expediently so,
b) had whatever county/state resources available to deal with the technology end of it,
c) actually succeeded!

These local detectives deserve a huge kudo.

This came to one of my less often used email addresses. Who believes this garbage?? Especially with the weird spacing and letter size errors?? It claimed to be from the Apple store

like in any business, resources are scarce. Scammers don’t want to invest staff time emailing or texting back and forth with those unlikely to fall for their scam. So the obvious typos and other errors are intentional, a way of screening to allow them to pursue those who may be the easiest targets

I can’t quite tell if you are serious or kidding. Staff time? I have heard of rooms with rows of computer stations with people, but wasn’t 100% sure if this is real. Seems to me some system sends out mass messages to email addresses.

I loved the line “this is from a trusted sender”. Um. NOT

Right??
:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Just got an email from theoretically iCloud telling me my storage is full and I can get an additional 50 GB as a courtesy if I would just insert my credit card details. So I separately log into iCloud and I’ve used 12% of my storage. Sorry, spam email.

I get one a day and simply delete these “iCloud is full!” emails. I don’t use iCloud

OK, this is off topic but I wanted to put the advice here. If you buy a new car, INSTALL THE APP that goes with it. FordPass if you get a Ford. I posted in the venting thread that DH thought our car had been stolen. IF we had installed the app, we could have seen immediately that the car was actually in a different part of the parking garage than DH was looking in. And if the car had been stolen, we could have tracked it easily.

I knew about the app, but really thought it was more for the convenience of paying the monthly loan payment. It’s much more than that!

Even in Maine, there is a good bit of crime these days, so I’m thankful for this app. As soon as DH got home from his misadventure, I made him drive us to the dealership to make sure we installed the app correctly.

Since we have only one car, this will help me when he’s out and I want to know where he is, if I’m waiting for him to get home with the car! Sometimes our schedules are tight.

Just make sure that you know who they’re sharing this data with. It’s like tracking software on your phone. Best if you are the only one who has access to the location data, and it cannot be hacked easily. Check how secure the system is.

Ok, when the email starts this way, it is obvious:
Subscription ended.

Indeed!

From our local police department - written because it happened locally…
