Wait. What? That was a scam?? Can you contest that charge with your credit card company? Asking for a friend.
My H fell for them doing something to “improve” his computer—ONCE. I was shocked, since he’s worked in IT for decades that he fell for it. It was a small price to pay and fortunately a one time charge. Phew!
I’m glad the glitter bomb engineers who were foiling porch pirates are now using the glitter bombs to go after the slimy folks who are preying on folks to turn over their life savings via these scam calls from I dis and elsewhere. They have videos on YouTube.
They’re working with law enforcement but sadly it’s like whack-a-mole.
MA attorney general Maura Healey got a phone call telling her that her electricity would be shut off in 45 minutes if she didn’t immediately pay off a balance by credit card.
Umm, no.
The original glitter bomb videos were among the funniest things I’ve ever seen on YouTube. My jaws were aching from laughing.
I’m glad they are helping law enforcement go after the scum are scamming people of large amounts of money and helping make some positive changes.
Interesting. I’ll have to go see how glitter bombs are used across a scam phone call???
Search scammer glitter bomb on YouTube and watch. It’s pretty interesting.
Thank goodness it wasn’t worse. Maybe he should change his paw rods, etc… just in case? And maybe run some antivirus software!
Seems like your card number got stolen (possibly an inside job at the card company) and used to pay for the hotel (and the thief probably used a fake ID if the hotel asked for ID). Not really the hotel’s fault.
That happens at least once a year to us.
I think it was one of their employees. In any case we no longer have any good reason to stay in the area, since D moved and we’d rather stay newer to her new address.
The hotel stuck with their story that H made a reservation and never showed, which was why they charged us one night’s stay.
Few years ago had lunch at a restaurant several hours from home. Noticed that my credit card was charged $10 more than I had authorized. Turns out waitress added a “1” in front of what I wrote in for the tip on the credit card slip. CC company told me to go to the restaurant and contest it. I said NO to that! Eventually, they removed $10 from my charges.
This is exactly why Europeans blanch at the thought of handing your CC to a stranger who walks away, and comes back with a slip of paper. Table top CC machines should be the norm here, not just at a few chain restaurants.
My brother didn’t get his CCard back at a restaurant and they started charging groceries on it. He complained and they apologized and paid him back before going out of business. He didn’t press charges.
A small rental car place charged us an extra $10 for a supposed flat tire on a rental car we returned. My CCard had a feature where they’d pay for any charges associated with damage for the rental, so I asked the rental car company fit the documentation the CCard company required to process the claim. They refused to provide any documentation so I contested the $10 charge and the CC company removed it.

Amazing on your phone. How in the world can ATT tell it is a ‘gas inspection’ scam? My phone does say ‘Scam Likely’ as Caller iD but does not say what type of scam it is

Probably has been reported to services like NoMoRobo.
UPS scam–I just got a message that UPS couldn’t deliver a package because nobody home to sign for it. Had link to reschedule a delivery. Very official looking with track number, where it was returned to (a clue since I couldn’t recognize it) Couldn’t remember ordering anything but?
So went to form and it asked for my birthdate? Ummm… no. So turned it all over to fraud at UPS. For funsies I put in tracking number on UPS site and it wasn’t recognized. But it sure looked official.
Wow, thanks for sharing.
UPS needs your birth date to deliver a package? That’s hysterical. I’m sure plenty of people provide that information.
Just got an email from Venmo that they need information to keep my account secure - I don’t think so - into the trash that went!
Got a voice mail today from a phone number with my town’s exchange. SSA does not have an office in our little town, of course, but message said that one of us would lose our SS monthly benefit if we didn’t call that local number. Do they think we all just fell off the turnip truck???
