Scared, but chances...

Cornell is a reach school, I'm aware it's very competitive but I absolutely adore it. So hopefully this isn't too much of a stretch, but if I shouldn't even spend the money on the application fee, let me know honestly:

Just to be aware of, which I'll note on my application, I was diagnosed with crohn's disease when I was in 9th grade, and I came very close to having fatally low levels of iron and other nutrients. This affected my grades somewhat in 9th and 10th grade, because I was missing tons of school.

SATs: 2000/2400 (this was like, top 13% I think)
SAT II scores haven't come back yet
White female from DC area
My school does not have a system of class ranking.
I hope to study biology.

Thaaaaaaanks! =]

Eighth grade doesn't count. SAT too low.

I'd say that academics and extracurriculars make up for the SATs, although if you've got the time to retake them I'd say you should do so. I happen to think you've got a nice shot at it...good luck! :)

doesn't cornell look past scores and focus more on extracurriculars?
i think you have a good chance but i really can't say because i don't know what your personal qualities or your essay look like.

I hate to say it, especially since I am the VP of my school's Gay-Straight Alliance...but I would not include it in your application.

You never know who is on the Admissions Panel, unfortunately.

This is Cornell. It has an academic department of Lesbian, Bisexual, and Gay Studies. The university's provost is a lesbian. The chair of the Human Development department, who is a gay man, is one of the world's leading experts on sexual identity development and the experiences of gay adolescents. The Cornell library system has a special collection of research documents on human sexuality, with an emphasis on "lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgendered lives and the politics of pornography." The university has an LGBT resource center, a Gay and Lesbian Alumni Association, and about a dozen LGBT student organizations. Of course you can say that you are co-president of the Gay-Straight Alliance. Nobody is going to object.

I only included Eighth grade because I took high school courses for credit then.

Thanks. I also have a recommendation from a former admissions officer, so that should help =]

even with your diagnosis, i believe your grades are very good. SAT scores, i think that they are fine. You broke a 2000 which is good

btw, jw, im also in the DC area...which high school do you go to?

She goes to Gonzaga. Her ECs even say it :)

I go to STA, myself. Good luck!

Haha, actually, I don't go to Gonzaga, you might know that's an all-boys school. The only reason I was even allowed on their tech crew is cause it's like my second home; more of my friends go there than my own school. And I have family there, also. But they love me, and I'm one of only two girls that have worked on their crew. I actually go to Yorktown, which is in northern VA. =]

Oh, and, what's STA? Is that St. Alban's?

Yep. It is.

Come see Gonzaga's play =] I'm doing the lights.
