You’re kidding right?

kidding about what?

well, i’m not kidding about anything. are you questioning the validity of my concern, or the reason i got a detention?

On the Common App, they’ll ask you this question:

This is the kind of thing colleges care about. If they cared about detentions, they would definitely have said so, because getting a detention is far more common than any of the things on this list.

No, they won’t see it. I got a referral in 9th grade (ironic because I’m like the best behave kid ever) and the principal told me it would be fine. A lot of kids get detention; even if colleges did see it, I doubt they wouldn’t want to admit you just because you were late to homeroom once.

-.-
I highly doubt colleges will care you came slightly late one or two days in a year…

In junior high, I got detention at least 3 or 4 times for being late, sometimes for being just a few seconds late.

Just out of curiosity(?)…what did you get the referral for if you don’t mind me asking?

I had my phone out in class. I appealed it, saying that I thought the teacher probably should have used a little discretion since I always follow all of the rules and I guarantee any of my other teachers wouldn’t have given a referral…this teacher was new so I guess she was trying to be a stickler. Plus it was the end of class and I was just showing my friend a picture of my brother. And two weeks later another kid had his phone out and she just told him to put it away. But rules are rules so yeah.

But I digress…

Just keep saying this and I guarantee you’ll feel better:

Would you like fries with that?

thanks halcyonheather, CE527M, and masterball. your responses were really helpful. lol overreaction, but it’s so new to me.

i was LITERALLY a second late. and my extremely procrustean homeroom teacher (i swear he loves sticking it to students who actually care), was like “i want you to feel bad so go down to attendance.”

now i’ve got to endure this detention surrounded by a bunch of rule breakers LOL

and, oh, repede, your responses are always SO helpful, but maybe stop commenting on my threads if they irritate you.

You’ll be fine! Colleges care about much more serious misconducts than a tardy detention.

thank you lol

i really feel better now

Let’s hope it’s hyperbole. Nevertheless it’s a good example of a generation living in fear over not getting into a top college. Instead of dreaming of what could be like political reform and tech innovation, instead it seems that such students are dreaming about a 2400 SAT and perfect attendance???

no no no, i’m just concerned about the detention lol

No it’s an example of how some students actually do care about their behavior and attendance as opposed to people who ditch school…

yeah, exactly

Eh, I’m usually just too lazy to even bother with getting in trouble.
