Scarf

I just got this red and white striped scarf in the mail from IU...hahhaaha did anyone else get this? I think it's too funny.

Students that have been awarded the Distinction or Excellence scholarships receive a scarf from IU. There was a similar post last year regarding the infamous scarf.

Just got mine today as well. It is sooooo awesome.

I’m so jealous. I didn’t get the scarf last year even though I got the Distinction scholarship and I see kids wearing it all the time around campus. Damn.

Aw haha you can have mine I probably won’t be attending

i got it too, pretty cool

LOL I was just about to start this thread but you beat me to it. Yeah I got the scarf it was pretty nice of them

My son got one too. How thoughtful IU is, we are impressed.

what kind of package did it come in? a manilla envelope? or a box?

^^If I recall correctly, last year it came in a silvery, red, foil, plastic type shipping envelope–like a present.

Hah-hah! My D is proudly wearing hers and those at her high school who haven’t gotten hers yet are all “Where is mine!”. The package was a soft “envelope”, felt like it was a T-shirt. They’re NICE quality too! I was surprised. Very cute little recruitment.

If someone got this OOS automatic scholarship award will they be receiving a scarf?

IU Distinction - $36,000 ($9,000 per year)

2Leashes, they should…it seems like only kids who live in the Midwest got them though. I never got one and neither did my friends w/ Distinction who live far away.

Well, heck. Woulda been fun for my daughter to wear it at her h.s. out here on the West coast!

I never got a scraf :(

Maybe it’s cause I am always late with my tuition?

As long as I get the scholarship money I am happy though.

I saw a girl in my school today wearing her scarf. I’m like “Hey, that looks familiar…”

She’s like “Yeah, I know, I’m not trying to brag, I just like scarves!”

OOS kids get scarves I’m from PA and I got mine yesterday

I thought the scarf was awesome. So far IU has the best admissions process ever - efficient, quick answer and they actually act as though they want you to attend.

Maybe the timing was the reason some got scarves and some didn’t. Since IU requests that you apply before Nov 1, and they sent them at the very end of Nov. So, if anyone’s application was received after that time…maybe they were done with that little recruitment step. Or, as everyone said…just cold climates. Does seem a waste to send to warm climates. Many/most kids here wear scarves DAILY, including INSIDE.

Jax…I was surprised my kid wore hers. I thought the same thing, it looked a little…“braggadocious”. But she said many kids at school were wearing them (huge school who send a ton of kids to IU). And most of the kids who didn’t get one wouldn’t know what they were for anyway, so … it’s all good. I think they’re just proud to be rewarded for their efforts.

I don’t think anyone at my daughter’s California h.s. has even heard of IU! The ones who do go out of state usually attend Ivies or private LAC back East. Or they stay closer in states like Oregon, Wash., Colorado and Arizona. Still, it would be great adversting IU if she had one to wear! I notice she wears a USC sweatshirt a lot.
