Well, I spoke too soon! Why? There was a fat, fluffy, bright red tin-foil package addressed to my daughter from IU Scholarships Dept. Hmmmm…I wonder what’s in there? :)

I wish she would hurry and get home from school so she can open it! I wonder if they say anything about the SSA inside. I want to call IU like someone suggested on another thread, but I guess I’ll wait to see if there’s anything beside the scarf.

Oh well! I went to the website and there’s a fun photo contest. Did you happen to see the freshmen from last year posing with their scarves on? I’m going to ask my daughter if she would like me to take a pic of her overlooking the ocean or near the lighthouse or maybe even a bronze surfer statue. They said to pose in your scarf anywhere. :)

unfortunately the letter inside didn’t mention the SSA. it just said that we “earned our stripes” or whatever haha

I wanted to clarify something in my post #20.

The adults in my daughter’s h.s. and especially the coaches know very well where Indiana University-Bloomington is. I think most of the students pretty much know about the UCs, CSUs and some private schools. And the ones who apply OOS are usually aiming toward Ivies and small LACs, especially the ones who offer generous no-loan need-based grants. Most of the OOS public schools kids in CA apply to are the ones within the WUE boundaries or possibly schools in Oregon if they can afford the OOS tuition. Most don’t consider other OOS because of the increased tuition. Then there are the kids who go to the local CC for whatever reason. So, no…probably a lot of KIDS aren’t familiar with IU (unless they play basketball). However, that doesn’t mean it’s not well known! :)

That $36,000 will come in quite handy when it’s time to pay the tuition bills. And the scarf is also great to have on these cold early mornings here in California.

Calcruzer–I had a good chuckle with the cold early mornings in CA. It’s about 14 degrees this morning in Bloomington. Very cold for this early in the winter months. The scarf definitely comes in handy in B-ton.

Funny, rrah. My poor daughter is out rushing in that cold this morning Bloomington (no red scarf for her), and I’m home here in California whining that I couldn’t possibly go out for a bike ride because it’s a chilly 45 degrees outside. It’s all relative.

LOL. Isn’t that the truth! I actually have the heater on this morning. Just call me a wimp. :)

Son received his scarf (36k IU distinction). Brother who is a sophomore at iu is jealous, since he’s also an IU distinction scholar and never got a scarf!

Singaporemom - congrats to son #2! My son never received a scarf last year - I figured it was because they wouldnt send one to China but maybe some postal worker in Shanghai is sporting an IU scarf that they found when “inspecting” the package.
