scarlet letters

"Required to say no to about 20,000 students, Harvard's admissions officers are more than happy to find any reason to cut an applicant. Even the slightest blemish—a stray grade or less-than-demanding course choice—can become a scarlet letter."

this was posted a while back, what do you guys think??

I think I might agree...but would that be just a LITTLE exaggerated?

But I did read all over the place that Harvard adcom's find reasons NOT to admit, not reasons TO admit.

So that's probably right, just take it with a deep breath and a grain of salt XD

I think that is a very exaggerated statement. They accept students that don't have 4.0s, 2400/36 SAT/ACT scores, nor have discovered a cure for cancer. It's not a requirement to get into Harvard ... it helps, though.

Does anyone know the # of applicants accepted and the # of applicants rejected in spring 2008?

(I'm curious, and I can't find the stats)

I really hope that's not true. I have a B+ freshman year, wouldn't want to get rejected because of that. :P

I don't think that's true though.

That's so dramatic!

^IVYCHAN

"Harvard College, for example, offered admission to only 7.1 percent of the 27,462 high school seniors who applied — or, put another way, it rejected 93 of every 100 applicants, many with extraordinary achievements, like a perfect score on one of the SAT exams. "

ahhh...that sounds scary ><

Thanks though!

(suddenly I feel as if my application should just go into the trash...)

not evry1 who gets in is perfect though it helps

I hope they dont do this!!!
