Hi, I took the SAT IIs on november 3rd and just got my scores back today. I'm currently look at Princeton, Harvard, Dartmouth, Carnegie Mellon, and MIT but do not by any means expect to get into all/any of them. I didn't really know about the SAT IIs and just had to go and take two I got a 740 on the SAT math IIC (which I'm upset about, because math is by far the subject I love most) and a 730 on the Physics. I'm taking spanish in January, and might retake these tests, but don't really want to do three subject tests at a time, espically since I'm not good at spanish. I want to know what my next course of action should be, if I should be scared, or what to expect. My ACT was a 33 composite, which I fell better about. I do have some decent ECs and have a few awards from the international science fair, but I guess all ivy kids expect these. Does anyone have any input?

your list is top heavy with schools that routinely must turn down hundreds of fully qualified applicants in a manner that is unpredictable, including rejection of perfect SATs and scores of valedictorians. By all means, apply to the schools you love, but also give some credit to excellent colleges who will more reliably snatch you up and send you an admit..I suppose you are well within the norm for CM but perhaps you should select another college match where you would be proud to attend?

Sorry, yes, I have obviously applied to various state universities and been accepted. Could you reccommend some good middle of the road universities that would seem like a good match for someone who loved math and computer science? (I don't want to veer off the topic of the thread too much, but really don't have much advice when it comes to this kind of stuff, our HS counselors can barely get people to attend public universities and don't know much here.)

Funny - I'm taking the same SAT2's as you (though I've taken them already). I'd say you may want to retake math with Spanish. Physics is not even worth the stress, because it's such a crapshoot as to what they'll ask you.

in other words - your math score has a higher probability of increasing than your physics score, so if you only want to retake 1, do it for math.

yeah, I decided to retake math in january. I didn't really even have time to look at what the math was about, so I think my score should improve greatly, and spanish I think I will do as well as I can for being a non speaker.

Look at U-Rochester, Case Western, RPI...

Thanks, I'll be sure to check them. Anyone else have suggestions like these?

^^^^perfect fits for you I think. also, Tulane, U Michigan, even Ohio State, also UNC
I'd imagine you'd get some decent money from these
those scores are not that bad, but for those top schools, you better have a lot of other things going for you (awards from International science fair is cool tho!)
33 is also not a bad score, but by no means spectacular.
always always study a bit before you take the tests. I realize you may come from a crappy school and not know much about these things, but always always. retake math and I won't be surprised if you get 800. if you're not good at spanish now, it will take a while and a lot of cramming to get good at it.

another quick question, if I retake math but have already have submitted the common application, how can I inform the schools that I will now be retaking the math IIC? Do I just take it and send it, or do I have to do anything else?

If I retake the test in January and make a better score, will it be submitted into colleges before they throw me in the back of the admissions queues or will there still be time?

My suggestion is to call the specific college. It's not what we tell you here, it maybe different from colleges to colleges.

I'll second RPI and Case...also WPI (Worcester Polytechnic) and RIT. State schools: UMD, UIUC, UMich (depending on your grades, etc. for OOS).

I've also been accepted at Colorado School of Mines, I like the integrated computer science and math major option but know little about it. Anything to say there? (Also thanks much for the safety options, I'm horrible about picking safety schools because I'm down in Texas and don't know much of them)

I heard it's an excellent school for engineering. So CS and Math should be good as well because they are interrelated.

I would also like to know the answer to this (mainly for schools like Princeton and Harvard)

I've checked both princeton and harvard, and they say january is the last test date for sat iis. I think if I can just take math and get a good 800 (I'm good at math, and didn't have much time to study, I think barron's book should make it easy enough) and spanish and I should have a better shot.
