SCEA Applicants with Crappy GPAs Club

I just double-checked and mine is actually 98.48% which makes me feel a little better :)

And another thing my school doesn't use is class rank, so the best I can estimate is top 10% out of 416 students. And based on what Nick 017 said, that doesn't help me much.

My school calculates GPA weirdly. And apparently I'm 2nd in my class. Of 120. -_-

As of this semester I'm probably in the top 10 poeple out of 100.. Before, I was only in the top 30 out of 100.

Freshman year (easy public school) - 1st sem: one B+, 2nd sem: all A's
I had a 3.9 average this year.

Soph year (moved to tough, competitive, private school on trimesters)
1st,3rd tri: 2 B's, 1 B+, 4 A's. 2nd: 1 B, 2 B+'s, 4 A's.
My school calculates GPA weirdly (A is 4.33, A- is 4.0, B+ is 3.66, etc.), but i had a 4.0 average that year.

Junior year
1st: 2 B+s, 5 A's. 2nd: 2 A-'s, 5 A's. 3rd: All A's
I had a 4.5 average this year, once again with that weird GPA thing.

Do you think my GPA is crappy (esp. sophomore year)

rofl^ Same here.

Algebra 2. Lowered my class rank by itself to 33/550.

cuz we rank using unweighted.

I've only gotten 1 B+ ever!!!
and my school doesnt rank!!!
but guess what!! My school doesnt weight but hands out A+'s...
so that makes my GPA: 4.17/4.5

(i dont even know if thats a good gpa or not!?!?)

4.56/4.00 weighted ftw!
except one B+ so leaves 3.97/4.00 unweighted :(

Yeah, show some love for the 3.97s!

3.97 fighting!

@eating food: yeah i feel so intimidated when i see chance threads of people who are like top 5 students, not %, in their class. and then they complain that they're not valedictorian.
i'm 43rd and it just looks so much sadder.

and our school doesnt weigh honors classes, which would have helped my rank so much more because our rank is weighted GPA and i've taken honors for everything.

These last few posts have NOT been bad GPAs.

This is ridiculous. I had a 3.7 weighted freshman year.

^^ I agree.

I already set the standard...let's be fair and not have any drama queens on this thread.

The provincial department of education is making schools stop rankings. We don't even get percentiles. It kind of sucks for me because I'm quite certain I'd be 1/5xx, but on applications it goes down as school does not report rank ;_;

edit: not that it matters. The school used to only rank Grade 12's in their second semester (which begins in February) so I wouldn't have been ranked until my applications were already in.

/raises hand

Woot for sup-par GPAs!

My UW is about a 3.6, but if I toss out freshman year, it shoots up to a ~ 3.9. I'm fortunately still ranked 4/400, but it's only because I've never taken a non-honors/AP course and have taken extra courses each year, so my weighted is quite good. Hopefully freshman year doesn't come back to bite me too badly.

how does 94/100 at a somewhat competitive magnet school sound?

taking the most rigorous courseload (i've taken all but one of the APs that my school offers, and i still plan to take that AP, not like that really matters tho) and such;

valedic's gpa is a 96/100. historical average valedicotrian gpa is 97.3 tho (except most valedictorian's didn't have the highest rigor).

Come on now, this has become a chances thread for GPAs. :/
