My SAT I is really going to hurt me, but I can't retake it before the Nov. deadline. I'm going to try and see if I can bump my ACT score up to a 34 (especially if Stanford considers the highest score from each section). It seems like there is very little I can do about my scores. Stanford claims that if both the SAT and ACT scores are submitted (which is inevitable if I submit my SAT IIs...and they are "strongly recommended"), they will put greater emphasis on the SAT. If that's the case, then I'm doomed (unless I get deferred and raise my score by 100+ points in November).

Hopefully my passion for learning will come through with the teacher recs (there will be many "best in career" boxes checked off). I'm going to do an independent study in philosophy this year (no one in my school has ever done this), and I'm in the process of designing a curriculum in coordination with my supervisor and a university professor. I'm planning on making some online publications, too.

Oh, wise CC'ers, is there any chance on this good earth that I will get the big envelope?

You have an outside chance. Your 33 ACT is good but the 2100 is well at the bottom of Stanford's SAT range.

i have to say that SAT scores aren't weighted that heavily.

i don't really see anything that shows committment AND extravagant.

I know, Statics. But I was merely pointing out that if the person had like a 2380, it might partially make up for lacking EC quality.

Argh. Darn SAT.

My extracurriculars show commitment (the leadership roles are huge responsibilities, along with 4 years of golf and theater), and my independent study shows that I'm pursuing an academic subject not offered at my HS. I chose to go to Guatemala to improve my spanish skills and help out the community.

However, staticsoliloquy, you are right in pointing out that these do not show national distinction or anything exceptional.

Is there still a chance?

Might it be in my favor to hold off on SCEA and try to boost my SAT I score in November and apply RD?

What is Stanford's expected median New SAT score?
