SCEA - Class of 2011

Please just do what you think is best as far as applying early or regular. Don't go nuts trying to analyze the "how can i get even a .0000001% better chance of acceptance" game. If you want to know if you can go to Stanford, cool, apply early! I'm sure you're all bright people, so just focus on yourself - the only thing you have control over - and your grades, activities, essays, etc.

I removed my name from the list. I've decided that applying early would be too stressful, especially considering that I'm submitting an art portfolio that I still need some time to work on. That also gives me time to improve my grades; third term junior year I got a B in IB History, which I'm confident I can raise to an A first term this year. You guys really don't need to know my entire line of reasoning, but that's pretty much it. I feel much more relaxed already. :)

well...... im glad to join a crowd of excellent applicants. i'll be checking into this post later.. :)

right now... gotta work on NMSC essay :( le poop.

hmm so the essay i've written fits the word limit but goes well over the character limit when attempting to apply online. 500 words = 2300 characters for me. and it cuts you off at about 1600. has anyone else faced this dilemma? any suggestions?

Other than trim.... I don't know... have you tried pasting it? 'Cuz I know you can go over by a little bit... not sure how much.

i think the long essay is 500 words and 4900 characters. the three short essays are 250 words each and 1600 characters.

Really? There's a word limit as well?

With the deadline rolling ever so close to us, where are all of you on the application? Have you even started? Or are you too busy?

um... I've passed out my recs and thought about the application =) haven't started yet though..

Hahah, julyinoh, you rock. :] I've passed out [most] of my recs; I still have to give out my counselor forms and resolve some issues with the optional rec (my supervisor is still on maternity leave). As for the essays, I have the long essay written but I basically hate it so I'm going to hopefully revise it a lot and do the other three short essays ASAP, with hopefully being the key word. lol. Whoever knew senior year was so stressful?

I passed out my recs filled out form a, but have not started the essay except a really bad free write.
I'm taking SAT on Oct 14th, after that I'll have two weeks entirely devoted to essay writing. two weeks is enough, right? anyone else taking SAT?

2 weeks is enough for some people. Some take less, some take more... I fit in the more category (~1 month). But I am just a slow worker ;)

yup quickflood im gonna join that SAT room too lol. hope we both do good on it =). on another note, i am like celestial605. i take forever on the essays (thats why I did it over summer) because i find myself staring at Microsoft Word or simply procrastinating. so if any of you are like me, i suggest taking out some paper and start writing on it. that way, you have no way of procrastinating.

Yea I keep meaning to work on it every night, but it never works and I just go to bed. I don't even know where all my time goes.. it just.. disappears.. sucks eh?

Is anyone mailing their app in? My teacher told me to mail in the whole thing with a nice cover letter, but I think these days the only person that's gonna see the letter is a secretary..

yeah sorry-should have said around 500 words. I've submitted form 1 and am struggling to fit all the EC's and awards into the tiny spaces on the online app. Anyone else having the same problem?

haha, that's funny, I don't have enough award to fill half of the space. wanna share some awards with me?

Ooh, I had a question about the awards thing too (though I'm still not there yet, since I'm still procrastinating on "Career Interests"). It says "academic" awards, so does that mean I can't put awards I've gotten for my overall community service? I wouldn't call it academic, but it doesn't fall into any particular extracurricular either. Also, I won awards for "business" roundtable projects that I wrote-up based on a financial plan for (wouldn't you know) paying for a Stanford education & for my volunteer work. Could I put both under academic awards or only the financial plan one?

I would put the business award under academic awards, though I'm not sure. The community service awards should be under extra-curriculars-listed under volunteer work as an activity.

what about sports awards?
