12.Shark_bite- I guess I'm in. Stanford is my top choice but I really don't have a shot.

If Chillaxin doesn't get in to Stanford, I'm not going to apply at all (next year).

btw, where can i find you guys stats?

Mine are [url="<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=207745%22%5Dhere%5B/url">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=207745"]here[/url</a>].</p>

We should start a wiki; it'd make life a whole lot simpler. :] Anyone know how to go about doing that?

...I have no idea how to start a wiki, but couldn't we ask whoever made the one for the last two years?

Do you guys know how many people will Stanford take through SCEA from one high school? Also, does TASP pretty much guarantee admissions with Stanford?

Stanford doesn't have set quoatas for how many kids they take from a school, but if you've noticed that they've taken the same number of people from your school for many years, it may be wise to use that number. You also have to keep in mind that Stanford's dean of admissions just changed last year, and that he's implemented more than a few changes in the way admissions work.

Nothing can guarantee admissions to Stanford; they just simply up your chances at being accepted. TASP is the same. If it were a guarantee, my life would be a heckof a lot easier. :D Are you at a TASP right now, fewfdsagdsag?

i am applying under scea, but i also am apply under interm decision at rice university since its a requirement for a undergrad/grad school program.

No, TASP does not guarantee admissions to Stanford. O_o

The # of people Stanford will take through SCEA differs per each high school. Most highschools have none accepted to Stanford, SCEA or RD.

Notice that only 2,500~ people got into Stanford and there are over 10,000 high schools.

I went to the tour on campus, the admission officer/student told us that there's no set quotas for each school
I sort of wish they make SCEA into binding early application. it was that way a few years ago. too bad they changed it. that way there won't be as many applicant, and I know I would definitely go if I get in.

Stanford has accepted three or four students from my school each year for the past few years (with 50-70 students in each graduating class)... even if there's no set quota it seems to be a pretty well-established trend, so I'm hoping that bodes well for this year. But of course that might just be wishful thinking. :)

Unofficial theory:

regular admission to stanford is the way to go.

The early applicant pool to Stanford is probably more competitve than any other university. the people who get into stanford early are the ones who are on the verge of curing cancer or getting the noble peace prize.

Anyone who is a genious, but has not changed the world yet, gets deferred. Deffered percentages of getting in are lower than RD. And if you haven't changed the world, or a step below, aren't a genious, then ED is the best :)

^That's the stupidest thing I've heard at CC.

Wow...

no need to call names.... you don't have to believe it....i'm just saying what i've observed

oracle1: My problem with your theory is that I can't bring myself to believe that admissions officers would be so blinded by the label "deferred" that they would reject a deferred kid in favor of an inferior RD kid. It's bad for the university.

So, what? Do the adcoms unconsciously discriminate against deferred kids or are they consciously putting together a sub-optimal freshman class?

Hi eveyone;

I rememeber I read this piece of information somewhere on this board: Unlike any other institution, applying to Stanford under Early action program virtually gives applicants no competitive edge. There's no striking differences between the number of EA and RD admits at Stanford...

Can anyone provide statistics of EA admits at Stanford to clear up this myth ? I'm absolutely hooked on Stanford and intend to apply early there. But this information has made me doubt whether I should risk applying, since what's the good of applying early action when it doesn't put you at an advantage (even slight). If so, I'd better apply early somewhere else and shoot for Stanford under regular decision :)

Much obliged ;)
