SCEA - Class of 2011

I do have to wonder, in every chances thread its like "yeah you have a chance but its gonna be tricky to get in"

So on that note is anyone in this thread actually confident that your getting into Stanford?? After writing my essays i would be confident but my 740/730/670 SAT score is gonna hurt me i know, so anyone here like "yeah im pretty sure ill be going to stanford?"

Many of the people on CC have stellar stats and ec's, but they all worry still. So I don't think you will be getting much, if any, replies.

Thats what i figured, better to build yourself as an under-dog and be suprised to get in than to over-estimate and be devestated to not get in. But alot of times when im reading chances threads im left wondering if not this person then who could posibly get in.

Chances threads are ridiculous. I don't mean to offend anyone of course but really. How is someone, who hasn't even gotten in themselves, going to tell YOU your chances? How is someone's parent of someone who got in, or someone who got in, going to tell you your chances when they don't even know how they got in?

Besides, what if everyone says "You're brilliant, you got this." and you don't get in? It's a false confidence builder. I think no one really can know if they get in. My SAT scores are lower than surftheiop's but I'm praying everyday that I get in. I don't need someone to give me vague remarks. Again, no offence. Everyone needs building up now and then. But it's never a sure fire method.

My belief with Stanford admissions, and all the other top-tier schools, is that its a crapshoot. There is no "perfect" applicant, and there is definitely no guarantee of admission. That being said, good luck to all of you! I can't imagine what I am going to be like on December 15th.

Since you are all applying SCEA, what are your thoughts on the fact that many argue that SCEA gives no tangible advantage to applicants? (Harder applicant pool, chances of being accepted after deferal are slim, etc)

Regardless of this, I am applying because Stanford's where I want to go, and I'd rather know in December than in April if I have a shot.

Exactly that. :] Stanford is my clear-cut first choice. Despite what others say about there being no advantage, I figure that there's no disadvantage other than losing out on the chance to get into another school early that I wouldn't otherwise get in to.

Plus, for me, nothing big's going to be happening between November 1 and December 31. My grades don't even come out till mid-February, so virtually nothing can be added to my app in that time. The only good thing I can see coming out of it would be my having a lot more time (and two breaks) to work on my essays.

on a slightly different note...

A question for those applying SCEA- are any of you planning on
submitting "Supplemental Audition Information" (Form 7) and
videocaseetes of your performance?

If you know people who have done it earlier (and got in)
do they send in "on stage performances with costumes" or
just "plain sessions without special costumes" ...?

I second chillaxin and third myriadp.

arwen15 - I'm not planning on handing anything in but do these "plain sessions" the same as stage preformances?

Yes De2.

The "plain sessions" Could be filmed on stage in just plain
dance workout clothes or a corner of a room; Submissions for
the national foundation of the Arts for example are very clear
about asking for non costumed performances.

I am trying to understand which type Stanford views favorably;
Stanford does specify "not to exceed 7 minutes in length on 2
hr speed tape"

Oh oh for filming. Well I think just plain clothes and the preformance would be fine. I don't think they expect you to be in full costume but you could email them if you want. The Arts department that is.

So how do you get first notification of decision? email, web server, snail mail????

I believe you get an e-mail telling you to check online, but I'm not sure. All this talk of decisions has quadrupled my nervousness. Is everyone doing the entire app online? I think I am.

lol man im having trouble on the roommate essay one. what are you guys planning to write for it? i dunno some of the last year's topic seems like there wasn't really any point driven just a fun experience while others were very purpose driven.

I'm doing the entire application online...but I recently read a thread about the common app and how it cuts you off for exceeding the wordcount at exactly 500 words...I wonder if this is also true for stanford? if so, i may think about applying by paper if my essays end up being a couple words longer and cutting the word count down would take away from my essay...right now, however, I am pretty sure on applying online simply because that is what Stanford prefers.
Plus my handwritings not that great.

myriadp, unfortunately stanford does cut off around 1596 characters with spaces =x.

Online! I'm just not going to think about the roommate one right now. Why would I write a note to my roommate that would reveal any deep fabric of my life? So I'm just going to let that sit. I think forcing you to use 500 words or so, helps you not to add useless information.

yup has helped me majorly lol =) especially with people editing it but i hate that part the most. you always feel that your essay is not adequate or isn't good

Lol, we're beating out Yale's "SCEA - Class of 2011" thread by 5 pages. :D

Are you guys all done with your essays already? If so, I'm wayyy behind.

I haven't even thought about starting... you're not the only one

lol GO STANFORD =) actually im almost done; just have to finish up the roommate essay. yeah i don't want so much stress over the school year by juggling school work, scholarships, AND college apps.
