SCEA - Class of 2011

I've finished the roommate essay, but I'm not sure if it's too formal for a 'note'. Is there more emphasis on the 'note to roommate' part or the 'reveals something about you' part? I think my essay reveals something about me but it isn't exactly a note. What qualifies as a note anyway?? Will that matter much?
Good luck to everyone applying SCEA!! It's great how everyone tries to help out and make the application process easier.

About the roommate essay: 'reveals something about you' is the more important part. But, try to look at it as what you might want to tell yor roommate about yourself.

Gah, I'm being uber-lazy. I really need to get on the ball. But I've done outlines. The roommate one is so weird. I can't imagine telling anything about myself in a note.

'Dear Roommate,

Hey! I just wanted to tell you that I'm a very open person so get some ice cream!'

/joke

yup i know what you De2. im getting so lazy too. lol im already getting tired of reediting my essays over and over again. i cant imagine myself in late October. as for ROCKao, what I am thinking to do is to write out something as if I am talking to a person on AIM, MySpace, or email. then afterwards, try to make it less informal. i think that is the best way to start it out. just my thought though

lol, I'd give anything for that to be the "accepted" essay. :] I entirely sympathize with you guys about the laziness thing. All during junior year, I was insanely driven (and I mean insanely), but I think senioritis hit me as soon as school got out. Oops? lol.

lol yes agreed! what are you guys doing before school starts if it hasn't already. if it has, what did you guys do over summer time?

I watched World Cup in June and July.

I had to catch up with summer assignments in August.

Summer Assignments for AP classes. Senior Photos, I hope they came out ok. Being lazy. I hung out with some friends. I still have 3 weeks or so. And I have to welcome the freshman to our school and go to a Peer Leadership Conference. Hopefully, I can hang out with my best friend, who I haven't seen in months!

finished my PE credits, volunteered at a local organization, hung out with friends, go to harvard summer school, summer assignments (1 left!), and school starts this week! i haven't seen my best friends since school got out. sigh

I went to CCIS (immunology research program at Stanford),which basically involved my leaving the house at 6-7 am and getting home at 7-8 pm every weekday for 8 weeks. On weekends, I spent 16 hours at the rehab center where I volunteer working in one-on-one therapy. Then in my "free time", I worked on my charity (and finally sent in our 501(c)(3) forms) and did a bunch of Key Club activities including making a float for our 4th of July parade. oh, and I spent every Tuesday and Saturday coaching youth girls' lacrosse, which was a blast. Every other Tuesday night was also spent at Stanford at youth council meetings for Hepatitis B outreach. Basically right now, I'm trying to finish all my summer homework, get Key Club organized for this coming year, run the Key Club booth at registration, and work as one of the freshman orientation leaders. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything'll go without a hitch. :]

How was your summer, Choboking?

Haha. I've been pretty lazy this summer, but I went to the High School Medical Scholars program at UNR, where we got the chance to shadow some doctors including a neurosurgeron, do a huge research project on Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, present our research to a medical panel, learn about medical school, get an introduction into microbiology, improve our prose, and stay at the dorms (get a sense of college) - and I must note the eggs at UNR are nasty. I also volunteered at the hospital in surgery and the outpatient department. I am also preparing NHS for next year, hopefully making it better than last year. Thats about it. I hope all our hard work for these past years and past summers will pay off in December lol

I'm so envious of everyone! I didn't do anything involving clubs. My clubs list and volunteer list are embarressing.

De2, I bet you are just being modest about everything. I bet, if you weren't active over summertime, your active during the school year. I am sure of it. During the school year, I tend to focus only on school because, at my school, its pretty hard to keep up the A's in AP classes. And don't sweat, that is what is great about Stanford - they look beyond your ECs and stats. They tend to look for personality.

Thanks. :) I was hoping for the personality factor. I have 2 APs this year, AP Gov't and AP Lit. I know I'll do amazing in Literature because I love reading and essays. But my AP Government homework was so hard. I want to get an A in that class though. In my school, if you get all As in every quarter, you don't have to take final exams. I want that sooo badly. It's like a week off from school. I usually do play in school. And the Drama club starts the week after school. GAH!

I was just thinking. What's everybody majoring in? I'm majoring in Japanese. I might double major in International Relations and Minor in English. It's ok if some are still undecided. :)

I'm madly in love with the Human Biology major at Stanford. It was a huge selling point for me (that is, if I wasn't already madly in love with it enough as it was lol). I'll also be going premed. I've also been toying with the idea of minoring in Asian-American Studies, but I'd like to take a class or two before I decide. Still, I love Stanford's choices for majors. :]

That's amazing chillaxin! I'm not a fan of sciences but it feels amazing when you find something that you love.

lol chillaxin. we have a possibility, if we get accepted, of being classmates then =). i am also thinking about double majoring in human bio and political science/government while minoring in pre-med, but i do not know yet. do anyone of you know how hard human bio is?

Hey, sorry to change the subject, but I have some questions about the applicaton. Do AIME scores fit in the 'academic honors and awards' or the 'extracurricular and personal activites'? What about composition awards and merit scholarships? What are 'academic honors' exactly? I'm from Taiwan, so some honors are different from those in the US and I have difficulties translating them and stuff. Should I explain what the honors represent?

Thanks in advance! :-)
