SCEA/EA/ED : Harder to get in compared to RD?

and yes, you can apply to multiple summer programs, and then choose from those you are admitted to.

Thank you all for your advice
I have another question (I keep coming up with more :P), I have not yet taken any standardized tests, I plan on giving the May and June ones, but mostly all these programs ask for the scores. How do I go about that? And even though some have an option of marking the ‘not taken any tests yet’ option, would that put me to a disadvantage against the other students who do have their test scores?

EPGY does not require test scores, but for CTY you test scores are a must.

Okay, thanks! But ever time I log into the EPGY summer institutes website to complete my app, SUMaC app opens up. Does anyone have any idea about this? :</p>

Maybe they are the same app? :stuck_out_tongue: Or maybe they use the same server and you really can’t apply to both. If you haven’t submitted sumac, you could submit it and then try opening the epgy app.

I remember that the first part of the app was online and basic info, the second part was the pdf. The online part may be the same but if, after you’ve submitted sumac, you still can’t see EPGY’s, you should just call them. If they say you can’t submit both and decide you really would rather apply to EPGY, then say you’ve realized you can’t go to sumac and are withdrawing your application.

This really is practice for college apps for you lol. It only gets harder.

hi idream! Out of curiosity I checked the sumac application - https://epgy.stanford.edu/summer/application.html?program=SUMAC&begin=start</a> - and it says “Current or former students or applicants of the following programs: …EPGY… Apply Here”. Clicking on that link asks you to fill in my ID and web password from EPGY and then takes me to a Preliminary Application with a sumac heading.

Then, going to the EPGY application [EPGY Summer Institutes - Admissions](http://epgy.stanford.edu/summer/hspapplication.html) - I get a different preliminary form with an EPGY heading that is already “submitted” for me, because I’ve gone to EPGY before.

So yeah, I can see 2 different apps and you should be able to, too…if you haven’t finished your sumac app finish it and then try EPGY.

The post-preliminary apps: I remember these being PDFs that you had to download from links, print and fill out by hand. If your EPGY download link isn’t working (why, though? It’s just a PDF…) you can always ask a friend who is also applying to redownload their PDF and send it to you. You can fill that in and mail it. As long as you’ve filled in your preliminary app and it’s gone through it should be fine.

Worst case just call them. It seems pretty clear that they want and expect many kids to apply to both programs, given the instructions on the sumac app and the infrastructure of the application system.

Yeah I can see then two different apps, but once I log in, the PDF that opens up is the same. Anyway, thanks a lot, you’ve been very helpful
I’ve e-mailed them the problem, lets hope they reply fast.

Hi, when I saw the discussion I was very excited but when I saw he fees of the programs, I was disheartened. How can anyone can give away 1 lac just for a summner program??

Hey, I just saw that they have finaid. I can only afford to pay 200$ of the $6000. I can get gr8 recs and can answer all ques on the test(On my own, that is). Do u think I will have a chance if I ask for finaid??

@Mrinal2207, As Tizil7 mentioned in his post and I have found out by intensive internet research in the last couple of days, these programs are very competitive to get into. You should really look into other programs too. As for your chance of getting in, I really can’t say.

See this link:
SUMaC - Summer Programs - College Confidential Forums

They talk that it is not that hard to get in.

Well, if you’re referring to the post in which the guys talks about how out of 6 of his friends that applied, four got in, its very subjective. If you read further, he also mentions that those four friends then went on to getting admitted in stanford, MIT and UC Berkeley - all very selective universities - their app must’ve been very strong in itself.
Plus, if you go on to the SUMaC website, you’ll see it mentioned that almost four times the people apply than they have seats available. For a summer program, thats pretty selective.
Anyway, by no means do I mean to say don’t apply. All I’m saying is that you could look into other programs as well.
And about finAid, I don’t know about internationals, but Stanford seems to be pretty generous with aid. I’m sure others will be able to tell you better.

^ I don’t think we need more opinions after your succinct and to the point advice :p
