Hey guys so Im interested in applying Harvard early action.
I am a female interested in pursuring a major in Computer science or BME.
Most of my ecs and summer work allign with my career interest and I have many awards in CS
so my gpa is kinda low around a 3.83 but my weighted gpa is a 4.84
I have taken an extremely rigorous schedule and have a lot of time consuming ecs which Im not going to list for privacy reasons.
my SAT score is a 1440 out of 1600 with an essay score of 6/5/6. I am also taking the ACT in September with hopes of getting a 33 or 34.
SAT IIs 790 in Math 2 and 760 in chemistry and a 710 for USH (which i didnt study for and wont send to colleges.)
However Ive gotten mostly 4s on my AP exams(4 exams)
I am also a great dancer and am interested in joining one of their good dance troupes and plan on visiting them in the fall.
So what do you guys think? Do I have any chance at all? Should i even apply???
Harvard is on record as saying they don’t accept any student in the SCEA round that they wouldn’t accept in the RD round. That’s Admissions-speak for “We accept the best-of-the-best in the early round.”
Last year Harvard deferred or rejected 85.2% of all SCEA applicants. While your unweighted GPA, AP scores, SAT scores (and projected ACT score) are certainly within Harvard’s range, they are not at the very tippy-top of that range. (In a recent Harvard survey, 54% of admitted students reported having an unweighted 4.0 GPA in high school – and Admissions actively looks for those top students in the early round.) So, IMHO your SCEA application might be overshadowed by the polly-pefercts of this world and Admissions will want to defer you to the RD round to compare you with a broader range of applicants.
That said, if Harvard is your first choice school, go for it! Just remember to apply to a broad range of state schools in the early round as well (your flagship state school, UCLA, UVA, UMICH etc) so you can have at least one acceptance in your back pocket come mid-December. Best of luck to you!
