SCEA vs. RD

in what situations do you think it would be advantageous to apply SCEA or RD? Does it even matter?

If you have your act together by the EA deadline, your chances are slightly higher, and knowing you're in in December is priceless...

By the same token, if you are not ready by November, do NOT apply early. Stanford rejects quite a few kids during the early round, and several of my friends who might have been accepted regular were rejected early. If you are not ready early then don't take the risk.

do you know what the sat deadline is for early action?

October.

Your chances aren't higher in the early rounds, as much as many would like to think. The early pools just tend to be more self-selective than the regular pools. Not to mention athletes tend to apply in the early rounds, too.

Athletes' early round is different. They find out in October or something...

One con about SCEA, though (as a 2011 SCEA-er myself): you have to wait sooo much longer for college to actually begin...trust me, it's painful. Not that I would trade in being an SCEA-er for anything else in the world, it's just something you might want to keep in mind.

You haven't waited for a decision till April, so you don't know what "painful" means ;)...

Agreed. :) But it's also quite painful socially if you're one of only a few seniors who get accepted to their EA/ED school...

But yeah, you're right. I'm glad I didn't have to go through the stress of waiting until regular decisions came out, but I did feel like I missed out on the general school reactions to college acceptances b/c I applied early.

Still, though, if I had the chance, I would pick EA over anything else. My complaints aren't really complaints b/c I just wanted to know about Stanford and didn't care about any other schools... <3
