Just wondering who alls going to those "Reception for Early Action Admitted Students" things.
Anyone know what we should expect there?
Tell us which one ur gonna be at (as in city) - hopefully someone on here will be from Houston too.

i'm an ea acceptee- what are these reception things, where did you hear about them?

I'm going to the one in atlanta! i think it's just an informal gathering where we can chat with alumni and stuff. it should be pretty fun!

yeah, what what what? where? huh?

lol, sorry, that was very incoherent...

this is the first I've heard of any "reception for EA admits"...is it a regional thing, a national thing? are we supposed to have heard or RSVPd by now?

I got a call about it last month. It's a chance for EA acceptees to chat with alumni and other accepted students from your region. Basically Stanford wants to try to "sell" the university to you.

We went to the one at Stanford last year. There were some refreshments available before the formal presentation began. An a cappella group sang, two students in different fields spoke about their experiences and Stanford in general, the dean of admissions and the vice-provost for undergrad education spoke, and then there was a short q & a period and people were able to linger afterward. At the end after the group q & a session, the students went to sit with student reps, and the parents had a session with the administrative people. It was fun, and pleasant, and began the gradual growing of the community of students who were going to attend. For people on the fence about whether to go or not, I think that the admit weekend is far more valuable, but for those pretty sure they are going, it is always a good feeling to meet some new classmates and get a sense of some of the opportunities on campus, get a feeling for the place, etc.

The SCEA Acceptees from the Bay Area all received a letter for a reception on January 30th. :-D lookin' forward to it.

bay area = san franciscoish area in California...juuust in case.

Anybody know anything about a Florida reception? I'd like to attend, but I'm not sure we have any local alumni in my area to set one up.

Yea- has anyone heard about a New York one?

hey bilabong. this is connie. probably met you today. first houston person on here i've found. well that's 1/8th of the early action kiddos. pretty cool.

yay, got my bay area letter--we're on the 30th, as jackiec said.

I'll be at the bay area one probably

bilabong, cisforcons,

I went to the Houston one on Monday - my name's Vikram (came in about 30 minutes late, my car wouldn't start).

All in all I found it nice to see to other people who were going but the meeting was generally pretty useless. What did you guys think?

anyone know of the washington DC area reception? When an alumni called a couple weeks ago he mentioned it in passing and said a letter was in the mail. Two weeks later...still no letter :(

Hey, vikram, I remember you =D One of the 3 "fashionably late" people. I was at that Houston thingy too...it was okay. I guess it would've been more pointless if you hadn't had any questions, but they should've just let us talk/meet with each other (which I thought was the point...eh, at least the parents were in another room ^__^)

ngs, I agree - the Q&A was nice but for 2 hours? pretty pointless. we should've just met with each other. who are you? i think i might be able to give a face to your name if i remember correctly...

I'm Christine, the one who kept asking stuff...so that the conversation wouldn't fall back into awkward silence, haha. Um...I was one of the two sitting on the ...crap, I don't remember what it's called. The thing that's part of the couch set...that you put your feet on O__o;.

o yea, the ottoman.

were you the one that went to kinkaid or clements?

Clements. YES, ottoman! Man, this senioritis is killing brain cells >__<
