Scerri Chem 20A

So grades just came out yesterday and I was wondering if anyone knew that these were grades were curved or uncurved?

Because I thought I did well on the final, got a B+ on the midterm, got A's on all of the homework and somehow ended up with a C+??

That’s really strange. My grades were similar to yours, I thought I bombed the final, and I got an A. You did pretty well on the midterm and homework. How were your Thinkwell quiz scores? You really should email your TA about this asap. It could just be a mistake in the grading!

Also, I think they’re curved. Aren’t most science classes? Then again, I’m not sure… I’ve only heard that Scerri is “generous” with grades.

^^ I’m almost in the same boat as you. (Though I didn’t do too hot on the midterm so I was anticipating maybe a B- with the final that I thought I did well in …) Except, I somehow ended with a C-… =(

yeah on the same boat here… very confused…

it sucks -_-
unless the final curve was high… BAHHH ended up with a C+

Okay, my stats for 20A:
in lecture 3 (the 1:00)
got 32.5/49 on the midterm (roughly B or B+)
Thinkwell averages to 85%
Pink Book are near-perfect scores
Thought that I did “not-so-well” on the final
Got a C in the class.

Yeah, I am going to ask him to see it and about the curve when we get back in the winter… I had 36/49 on midterm, missed 7 points total on Pinkbook and Thinkwell was never under 85%, and only was unsure about 2 or 3 parts of problems on the final. Ended with B+

I have the opposite…I got a pretty bad 28/49 (B-) on the midterm, missed 5 points in all for the pink book, had around a 92% average for Thinkwell, thought I did fairly well but not extremely well on the final and got an A in the class. Go figure.

I emailed my TA and asked to see my score as well as the mean and std. dev. He said that he didn’t have any of that information and that, apparently, I won’t be able to know my score on the final until 3rd week of winter.

Check your emails for this

 1. Yes what you received was the final overall grade for the course. I understand that the registry is presenting this in a confusing way.

The final exam was not given a separate letter grade.

To find out your score on the final exam you must wait until week 3 of w10 and collect your exam from the chemistry office. I dont have the exams.

No regardes can be considered for final exams. We don’t have the resources. TAs have moved on. Incorrect addtions can be considered if brought to me when you have the exam.

Absolutely no regardes can be considered for mid term, HW, Thinkwell at this stage. Its all done with.

Yes ALL scores were curved.

No I will not be posting precise cut offs between various letter grades.

The scoring is as given in the original syllabus. 30% for HW and Thinkwell, 30% mid term, 40% final.

I will be posting averages for the 2 final exams very soon as well as averages for overall weighted scores.

There is more to life than exam grades.

got an A-

I’m happy with it, expected B+/B.
32.5/48 on the midterm
97ish % on pinkbook+hmw

I did okay on the final. Overall I’m satisfied.

Anyone taking Tolbert or Bauer for 20B?

I’m taking Bauer, but i really wanted Tolbert. They screwed me by canceling the 11 o clock chem 20bh class

coldness, why did you want to take Tolbert? aren’t her tests very hard?

btw, dinoian, I think you were in my chem discussion: 3C with Ada Li?

20A average on the final exam for lecture 3 was 101 out of 159.

^ Where did you see that?

I ended up with a C+. Had like an average of 85% on the Thinkwell and missed less than 10 points overall on the pink book. Got a 16.5/48 on the midterm and I suppose I did okay on the final considering the grade I got.

Damn this sucks. /tear

@Excor
Would you happen to have been in section 3B?

Nah, I was in section 3C.

Yeah, I was in 3C with Ada. It seemed like she had no idea what was going on, and it didn’t help with the final apparently.

I’d prefer Tolbert because, hard tests usually mean lower curves, and also because I wish to learn chemistry.
