Schedue for the fall?

This is what im planning to take next semester. Is a 3.5 realistic goal for my semester gpa?
Engr 100(i dropped cuz i wasnt doing well)
Cee265
Math 214
Urop

I plan on doing IOE and i have wnough incoming credits so i wont be behind by not taking 201/202 or 265 this semester

CEE 265 is easy, but boring as hell. I think when I took it they took attendance for a portion of the grade, and there is no class you’re going to want to attend less than that one. (Yes, the description of the class sounds interesting, yes, it really is really boring.)

Math 214 should be pretty easy.

Engr100 depends on the section.

A 3.5 is probably a realistic goal.

Son, an incoming Freshman in CoE, going to be a EECS major, registered for Math 214 (assuming he rec’vd a 5 on Calc. BC); Engr 101; Physics 140 and a 3 cr. Freshman seminar + a 1 cr. UC (both req’d to stay in his MLC). I’m afraid he’s taking on too much his first semester. . .especially if he intends to go through Greek Rush! Thoughts from those who have been there? Winter term he very much wants to take Engr 100 - Gaming for the Greater Good. . .anybody taken that?

LittleMom, are you sure it was Math 214 and not 215 or 217? It doesn’t make sense for him to take 214. It’s meant to be exclusively for IOE majors.

As for the load, it’s probably on the higher side of moderate. He’ll probably find himself a bit busier than he’s used to but he should be able to get through it fine.

Chesney always teaches that Engr 100. Everyone else can comment on him. Though I didn’t take that one myself so I can’t tell you anything about the class.

Actually Math 214 is required for CompSci majors also and either 215 or 216. He thought that taking 214 his first semester of college would be a bit easier than 215/6. . . concur with that? His other option would be to not take any Math class in the Fall and wait to take 214 until Winter term when he won’t be taking 4 cr. towards his learning community and won’t be dealing with Rush. . .

Wow, it is. This is a very recent change. Anyway, it used to be for only IOE majors. My information is outdated.

I’ll say, because of this change, I think there’s a good chance the content of the class may be different. So I won’t comment on it. I’ll say it used to be fairly easy, no idea now.

Also, interesting that there’s now a document for double majors with CS? Didn’t exist back when I was around.

As for whether he should take it or not, I’d say stick with it for now but decide in the first 3 weeks if possible if he wants to drop it or not. If it’s dropped within the first 3 weeks there’s no W on his transcript.

LittleMom, thats a pretty tough schedule especially if he wants to do greek life… in my opinion greek like is at least a 5-6 credit commitment every week and I know that physics 140 is really hard (even people who got 5’s on both AP Physics tests in high school ended up getting Bs and Cs)

Im taking the solar cells/energy one. I took the one with wynarsky last semester and he is the worst. So glad i dropped instead of wasting my time to end up with a low grade.

And i heard urop is a good grade booster so hopefully that will add a slight buffer
