Schedule Change?

Ok…well I was accepted early decision and am still extremely happy with that, but every day I think about how nice it would be to drop my foreign language class for second semester. It’s tons of busy work, and I completely hate it. It’s an AP class, although I did take the AP test last year and got a 3.

I was wondering if Brown would consider letting me drop an AP language class second semester (or, switch it for a new class?) or if that is something they are generally not into. I’ve thought it over for the past month or so, and I figure that it can’t really do much harm to at least ask. What do you guys think? I was thinking of writing a letter saying that I really want to have the time to explore my academic passions, but between a varsity sport and 7 periods of ap classes (even though i chose this), i don’t really have time to research and play around with math and science.

One problem I forsee is that they have tons of applications to process right now and that’s the last thing they care about…but idk. Do you guys think I should take a shot at it? It would make second semester so much better.

I think the question to ask is: Would you be dropping this AP class if you hadn't been accepted ED to Brown/if you were still waiting to hear from colleges?

Don't let your early acceptance give you early senioritis. If it's genuinely too much for you to handle, then I'd consider it; otherwise, just keep going and deal with the work--we'll be done soon enough!

The only reason I'm taking my foreign language is that during junior year my counselor said not taking it would keep me out of Brown. She said it most likely would raise a flag.

Being on a varsity sport, I have practice 4 1/2 hrs a day, plus school, which doesn't leave me enough time to sit back and enjoy learning. It's hard to explain...but do you know the feeling when you're like-- I have 30 minutes to do all of my homework...and you rush through it and aren't really able to question and think but just do tons of grunt work? That's what school is like for me right now. Do you think Brown would understand this? I'm a very hard working person, but I like to do what I do with passion and not brush through my periods preparing for the next.

Trust me, I know your dilemma. I play two varsity sports (field hockey in the fall and tennis in the spring) and in the spring I stage manage for the musical too, so at the end of last year I was just feeling really burnt out with added SATs and ACTs and APs etc etc. Fall of this year was a little better, but not by much. Plus a really pathetic procrastination problem = no sleep.

So I get what you mean.. I guess I honestly don't know, sorry :/

Don't freak, Rob. If it means that much to you just drop the class. I dropped and swapped several classes my second semester of senior year and Brown didn't have any problem with it.

thanks! I'm glad to hear that, onegoodgirl. i think i'll at least try.

does anyone know what would be the best way to contact them? By email or by mailing a letter..?
