hey guys i was wondering if any of you have taken any of these classes and what your experience of them was.

Looks good to me. It should be challenging, but not overwhelming, and that's definitely a good thing.

4 8:45's kind of sucks, but I see Chem is one of them, so if you have a late night or something missing isn't really that much of a problem or anything. When are you planning on scheduling a lab?

Anyway, I'd definitely be happy with it. Writing 20 sounds interesting...different than alot I've seen.

Econ 51: you got a sweet lecture time for that. Last semester it was at 8:30 am. It's not a very difficult class if you keep on top of your work. Leachman is an awesome prof. She comes off as a bit mean at first, but if you respect her, she respects you. Make sure to take advantage of her office hours and definitely sign up for lunch with her. She takes you to the faculty dining room which is this nice, white table cloth place above the West Union that you have to be invited to to get in.

Math 25: I was originally in this one, but ended up doing 31. Unless you have alot of trouble with math, I would definitely take 31. It's so much better than having to do 25 AND 26. I'm no math genius, but 25 and 26 are pretty much remedial classes for people that really aren't very strong at math and move pretty slowly. The opening level maths at Duke (25, 26, 31, 32) are almost universally not fun. If you have trouble, make sure to check out the math help room in Carr Building on East. It's staffed by profs until 10pm every night, a great place to go for help/look at answer books.

thanks for the tip chuckley! yea, i'll be sure to use all the help professors make available. the reason i didn't take 31 is that my calculus teacher in HS SUCKED. i was scared of going into 31 without having a strong backing in calc and screwing up. so u guys think econ is hardest out of those classes? or chem?

and yea the 8:45's kind of put me off for a while. but i just look at it as if i'll have the entire afternoon to finish my work and then can chill with friends later without worrying.

oh and i'm leaving the country tomorrow so i may not check CC for a while but i still really appreciate ur help guys!

chuckleybob: If I never took calc before in HS, what intro math should I take? I think the website said 25, but I dont want to be a slow class :p

Ozym - 25. If you never took calc, definitely 25. I know people who DID take calc who struggled in 25...math at Duke is just hard no matter what class you're in.

Yea, if you have had absolutely NO exposure to calc, you definitely should take 25. Math at Duke is challenging to say the least. So, 25 is a good starting place. I don't remember what I said exactly, but 25 is by no means a class for "slow kids." It was just too slow moving for me, having already taken calc (non-AP) in high school.

I really cant believe how "covered in blue" my first semester pratt schedule is, 2 lab classes can't be fun. Is Eng53 or whatever a relatively easy intro-type class? Especially with math 103x and chem 23 and 2 others, seems a little overwhelming right now.

you don't need to be invited to get into Faculty Commons... yes, usually a student only goes if they're with a prof or doing an evaluation of it, but as long as you go when it's not too busy, they're not going to restrict you from going in. a lot of my friends go fairly regularly.
