Hi I am a rising senior and I was recently notified by my school that I had scheduling conflicts.
I signed up for these classes: AP Cal BC, AP Bio, AP Econ, AP Music Theory, AP Comp Sci, AP Lit, Symphony Orchestra.
The problem arises with symphony orchestra and AP Bio. Since AP bio is two periods long, I will need to drop symphony orchestra for my schedule to work. I can put AP Bio somewhere else in my schedule but that would cause three other AP's (Music theory, Lit, and Econ) to drop. I would rather give up orchestra than drop 3 AP's. The final option is to take regular Bio instead of AP.
If this helps, I am interested in pursing a career in engineering, probably mechanical engineering. I am applying to schools like UC Berkeley, Cornell, UMich, and UT Austin. I really want to take as many AP classes as I can to show my academic strengths and versatility. But also, I have been playing the violin since 3rd grade and I have made regional every year in high school. I am one of the top violinists in the school and I play frequently for the community. Would it be a sign of loss of interest to colleges if I did drop orchestra? If I do drop orchestra, I will have a study hall in my schedule which will help me with all the AP classes I am taking. But, will a study hall in my transcript hurt me when I am applying to colleges?

Drop AP Bio and take it online.

I would rather take AP bio as a class rather than taking it online. I don’t think I have the motivation and the discipline to take any academic course outside of school.

I’m in your same situation (been playing since 3rd grade too) and I’ve taken orchestra for all 9 years. I would keep it because it’s something that we like to do and instead you could drop econ to make up for the space. Although I think orchestra does lower my class rigor, the fact that I’ve been playing for a long time shows to colleges that I’m not taking a less strenuous class for the leisure, but for the interest. I dropped all my humanities for senior year to make room for math/science classes since I’m taking music (I’m also going into engineering).
