I’m switching schools next year because I’m having a tough time keeping up with the workload in college prep school due to medical issues.
Freshman year I took 2 APs(bio, HuG) and 3 honors classes(precalc, English, Spanish). My only regular class was health/PE(6 period schedule).
Sophomore year(now) I am taking 3 APs(micro, world, Chem) and 3 honors classes(English, Spanish, calculus) at the same school.
We have a 7 period schedule at my new school and I’ll be filling up all 7 periods. I signed up for 3 APs: physics C, Lang, and calc. They also offer APUSH, but I feel like 4 APs would be overkill based on how I fared last year. My other classes are us history(you can get honors credit for a special project), engineering principles, art, and Spanish.
I’m pretty sure I will be doing AP lit senior year along with a couple dual enrollment courses that I can get out of the way over the summer. My school also has a college level engineering course in conjunction with the state flagship that I’m interested in. I’ll probably continue with Spanish(not AP) and maybe art if i end up enjoying it. I’m not sure if I want to do AP gov or not.
Since I’m dropping from 6 AP/honors classes to 4, will I be looked down upon in the admissions process? I honestly hated being forced into that many high level classes so I probably won’t change my prospective schedule, but it would be nice to get some perspective so I can try to determine where I should apply to college. Thanks!
It is somewhat unusual to take 3 APs sophomore year (in the over all scheme of all HS students)…so taking 3 APs Junior year is just fine. What is more important is that you do well in the AP classes you are taking and you get your health in order. There are many many many universities out there and you will find one that matches you.
1° DO NOT do Physics C if you haven’t taken Physics already. It’s the 2nd level in the Physics sequence. Tak AP Phys 1 (or 2, or Honors Physics), AP Lang, and Calc.
2° If you take Honors Physics as a preparation for Physics C, you could try to take AP CS Principles (since you’re interested in STEM) or APUSH.
3° If you’re worried about rigor, you could take AP Macro, since you’ve already take AP Micro. It’s only a 1/2 AP. It’d be possible alongside AP Physics 1 OR AP CS Principles, but not alongside APUSH, which requires lots of reading/writing.
4° Plan to take Physics C senior year, or Physics for Engineers at your flagship/dual enrollment program.
Everything else is perfect
@MYOS1634 I have taken physics before, but it’s not on my transcript since I did it as independent study. The GC suggested a placement test and I did well so the science department placed me in physics C.
OK, I thought you had never taken Physics and jumped into C (it happens every year, and it’s never a prety sight.)
Then, your schedule is perfect. It’s actually very rigorous as is.
@MYOS1634 yeah haha some kids did that for AP Chem this year and let’s just say there were a lot of Ds and Fs
Admissions will look at and see your school transfer and take that into account when considering your courseload.
