schedule dilemma

My school just released the schedules, and I found out that they cut another one of my classes. This is my current schedule, it basically classes I’m not interested in or just had to take to fill my classes.

Semester 1:
AP Human Geo
Study
Econ
Business Law
AP Stats
AP Psych
Current Probs

Semester 2:
AP Human Geo
AP Calc AB
US Gvt Dual Enrollment
Ceramics
AP Stats
AP Psych
Study

I was supposed to be in Cadet Teaching (a 2 block class) second semester, but they don’t have a teacher for it apparently. I do not have any more advanced classes offered at my school, I have taken them all. I was scheduled for AP Research, AP Euro, and AP Spanish earlier in the Spring, but they cut those classes as well.

I have a meeting with my counselor today, and I need to resolve my problems pretty quickly because school starts in less than a week.

One of my ideas is to request an Independent Study. I would be in an actual class with my teacher, and the course would actually be structured. I am hoping to propose to my counselor that I have my independent study during 8th block, since that is when AP Seminar is offered. I already took that this past year, but I think some of the assignments will still be beneficial for research, etc. I just don’t know if the school will end up adding another course to that block, since AP Seminar is already double blocked with an argumentation course (in order to allow it as an English credit)

My other idea, since I can’t take a 4th year of Spanish even though I plan on studying it in college, is to request some type of class that would kind of be like a Spanish Immersion. I have no idea how my school could work this out, but I don’t want to take a year without instruction in Spanish. Any ideas on what I could do to keep up my Spanish proficiency? Hopefully I could get put into the Spanish 3 H/Spanish 4 class and my teacher could possibly alter my assignments to adhere to college Spanish 3. I would be willing to do other assignments during a study and advisory.

My school also has a program with a local CC that gives students 6 credit hours at no charge. I plan on taking World Lit 1 and Social Problems the first semester, and my parents said they could pay for 2 more during the Spring semester.

I will end up dropping Business Law, Ceramics, Current Probs, and one semester of study for the independent study and Spanish immersion. I also might drop the Calc retake so I have a full year of study hall after all. If I really want to improve my Calc knowledge I’m just going to take Calc 1 at the CC.

Any ideas on how to propose the Spanish immersion? Do I need to add anything to my independent study idea?

My only other options on securing a decent senior year schedule are to attend an open enrollment school (I don’t really want to change schools now) or I could graduate mid term, but my school is very strict on approving these due to its effect on the overall grad rate and funding  I really do want to stay the whole year, but not if I’m going to end up wasting my time in blow off classes.

What year are you in?

What sciences have you taken? You should take Bio, Chem and Physics and then an AP version if possible.

You need English and science.

That’s interesting that AP Calc AB is only one semester.

Also, I’m assuming you’re in 11th or 12th grade, why would you take AP Human Geography?
That is a weird schedule with no science or English, and a half year of a useful math class.

I’m a senior, as I’ve said before I’ve exhausted every class at my school. I go to a rural school. I’m taking AP Human out of pure interest and needing to fill classes. I’ve taken every English class at my high school and will be taking an English class at the community college. I am retaking the second semester of Calc AB. I already took it. AP Stats is the last math class at my high school. I’m looking for ideas and not criticism of my schedule. I literally (and I mean literally) have nothing else to take.

Can you take Spanish at the CC? Why are you repeating calc?

The CC does not have Spanish Level 3 during the fall semester, I’m hoping they do in the Spring. I am retaking Calc because I don’t have a good understanding of it, and would like to for college since it’s basic college calc. I might take Calc 1 at the CC.

If you’ve taken all the required classes, couldn’t you just have graduated early? Most of the classes you are taking would have just as well been taken in CC or at a university.

What Spanish classes are offered in the fall? Are you certain you would place into Spanish 3?
If your parents are willing to pay for a class, could you take the Spanish class online, offered by someone else? Maybe another college, or AP Spanish through a program like CTY or Duke TIP?

I can’t graduate early, school only allows it for certain circumstances.

I am certain I am in Spanish 3 because I have earned the credit hours in Spanish 1 & 2 through the same CC.

Make sure to take Spanish 3 at the CC in the spring (list it on the SRAR) but in the fall you could audit Spanish or native speakers at the CC and ask the professor if they have something you could do a 1-creir I independent study?)
Can you take philosophy or ethics at the cc?
