Schedule Dilemma

Hey, I lost pw to my other account + email after clearing my cookies, so I will just have to settle with a new one I guess.

Anyways, here is my planned out schedule, so please give me some critiques if possible. I also have a few questions that I hope one would answer.

FALL 06:

Principles of Business
Chinese 1

WINTER 07:

US History 1
Computer System 11
Soccer

SPRING 07:

Trigonometry (Not transferable to UC)
Chinese 2
Music 13 Honors
Political Science Honors
English 1A
Soccer

SUMMER 07:

Pre-Calculus
Accounting 1

FALL 07:

Calculus 1
Chinese 3
Economics - Micro Honors
English 1C Honors
Statistics Honors

WINTER 08:

Physics 1
Accounting 2

SPRING 08:

Calculus 2
Chinese 4
Economics - Macro Honors
World Literature
Human Biology

The following will be fulfilled: IGETC, Honors Scholar, Haas Preq, UCLA TAP

Units: 86 Semester

Planned Major: Business, Business Economics, Economics

Questions:

Is my schedule for Fall 07 a killer, considering I am taking 3 honor courses along with calculus and advanced Chinese?

Should I drop Chinese 3 and 4 to lighten up my schedule? Will colleges look down upon that as I would have already taken 2 semesters of Chinese by then?

How time consuming is Accounting? Both are 5 unit classes in my CCC.

Am I taking too many units? Will they frown upon 86 semester units?

And if you have any suggestions for alternative courses or alteration of my schedule, please do voice your opinion.

Thank you and have a wonderful holiday everyone!

Regards,
Richard

"WINTER 08:

Physics 1
Accounting 2"

...lol

What school is this? is it mt sac?

It sure is, Laguna :D

And lostincode, you make me nervous....slaps lostincode around a bit with a large trout

your fall/spring schedules look pretty easy.. honors classes at CCC aren't much (if at all) harder than regular classes.

winter sessions, however, are a little different >_>

and why don't you do soccer every term? that'd look good on paper

Okay I'll help you out with what i know:

Music 13 Honors should be cake with Calkins
POLI1 Honors is a new teacher, so no idea

ENG1A - Just avoid Karn as the teacher and maybe Edsen

Calc 1- the teachers are pretty good here. Easy ones are Tamayo and McDonald, good one but hard is Tran

Your Econ should be Macro Honors first in the fall then Micro in the spring

ENG1C honors is easy with magean

Stats honors should be easy whether its Schaina or Guth teaching

Your Winter schedule looks like hell- accounting is about 5 hours a day

and Calc 2 - take those same teachers again

Taking so many units wont hurt you at all and are you doing physics to get the physical science out of the way?

Thank you.

Erhmm, I'd hope I have time for soccer every semester but its very time and energy consuming unfortunately. And that is if I don't try out for the track team, which if I am recruited, could possibly overwhelm me academically. But I am sure you'd agree that would look awesome on my transcript. 25 hour days please?

But is Physics that notorious? I have noticed in several threads now where people would lament about not daring to touch physics with a ten foot pole. I mean, the preq for Physics 1 is like Algebra 1....

Edit:

Laguna, cookies for you.

I noticed IGETC requires a science with lab and physics seems at least the lesser of pests when it comes to science. But even then, I am holding it off until next year, haha.

For physical science with lab id suggest Astronomy with Lab that would be one of the easier tracks and Micol Christopher is an awesome Astronomy teacher

Ive never taken the physics 1 so i dont know how hard or how easy it is

All this time flipping through the schedule booklet and I haven't even noticed Astronomy. It does indeed sound like a bunch of fun, at least compared to the likes of Chemistry. Heh, you are totally awesome, Laguna.

how long is your Winter session?
Does your school run on a quarter system?
Or is it a semester + winter intercession?

If it's the latter one, I'm assuming the winter session's about four weeks long.
If that's the case, I would not recommend you taking Accounting II and Physics together. Accounting and Physics are both extremely time consuming, and accounting especially is TEDIOUS.

Physics... in 4 weeks. That's a major killer; don't take it during the winter. Maybe over Summer it's more doable.

Oh yes and one more thing. Take Macro/Microeconomics during your first year. Or during the Summer after your first year. ** Just Make Sure that when you are submitting your transfer application, you are able to report your grades on those two courses, along with Calc I and Calc II. ** Those two are some of the most crucial courses that UCLA and Berkeley will look for in the grade, and you don't want to save those courses for your last semester at your cc. Get them out of the way as soon as possible.

Our school does semester with winter session, its the first time we are going to have it and its 6 week. I already saw the accounting class schedule, its almost 5 hours a day i believe, so yeah its pretty killer

Good advice from dhl3. And Accounting really did suck - especially Management Accounting, which I believe is taught as Accounting II at most colleges.

You are absolutely right, dhl3; my original plan was to get Econ and Calc done by next fall but here comes the tricky parts.

Our college doesn't offer Honors Macro in the Spring and thats a preq for Micro. So that means I either have to take it next year or forsake the honors program (we must take 6 honor courses by the end of spring to be considered Honor Scholars and obtain eligibilty for UCLA TAP).

And the other bugger is that I failed my second semester Trig/Precalc class in high school. I tried talking to a counselor and reasoning with her that with my SAT Math 1 question shy from a perfect score (along with a perfect CAHSEE, STAR testing results, etc.) I'd have the ability to take Precalc. Apparently, she disagrees (Isn't CC a second chance? I mean, I know I am a total slacker in high school but basicly I have no chance to redeem myself here). So I am stuck with Trig for winter and despite my best efforts, I won't be able to get calc 2 checked off by fall unless of course, I dual take 1 and 2 (which I am not too confident about).

Oh well, I guess everything does indeed come with a consequence. At least I have learned a life lesson here.

Well your counselor is the right person to talk to for math classes. Try talking to the Math Department Chair Debbie Williams or at least email her, and also try to see which teacher for pre-calc you want to take and tell him to so he can back you up. It doesnt hurt to try so why not give that a shot

Also for the econ thing, even though at our school it says you need Macro as a pre-req for Micro, you dont necessarily have to have it like that. The only thing similar are the first 4 chapters, so you can try to talk to business division dean or something

Off to Vegas tomorrow so I'd prob have to do that in an internet cafe. Deadline to register is on the 3rd of Jan., so I definately needs to hurry up.

And I figure I can take macro this Winter followed by micro at Spring. I'd need another honor class then ;/, but it seems to be worth the trouble, don't you guys think?

just get a 4.0 and forget about tap

Also if you would like to get more information on Honors and what teachers are good and such feel free to PM me and i will be happy to give you info on what I know. Also feel free to drop by the honors office in room 15-3 when the semester starts, a very friendly atmosphere and free printing to all honors students, although i wouldnt suggest studying in there since people are always in there chatting

Back from trip and hope everyone is having a great Christmas eve. :D

Anyways I have finalized my schedule and wonder how it looks to you all. Don't be shy, voice your opinions!

Questions that I have:

Is my schedule competitive enough?

How are my choices of colleges?

Should I retake the SAT? I have a 1460/1600, 2100/2400.

How about my SAT 2? I have a 660 for US History and haven't taken 2c yet. Should I retake history and get a score for 2c?

Thank you.
