Why does Hofstra want a copy of my parents Schedule E? My parents did not fill it out. I do not see the purpose of it either. I asked a couple of my friends who got in and Hofstra never asked for a Schedule E. Can someone fill me in as to why they need it?

Probably because they think (from what you filled out on the FAFSA) that your parents have either rental income (or loss) or royalties.

I see but they said submit it only if filed. My parents never filed so I don’t get why they want it.

Call Hofstra and tell them your parents didn’t do a
Schedule E. They will tell you what to do. It sounds like Hofstra asked for this IF your family did it. They didn’t so you would not send it… But call to be sure.

Thanks for the responses, I emailed them right now. Will call them Monday if I do not get a response from them.

“they said submit it only if filed. My parents never filed”

You have the answer to your own question. Hofstra just said submit it if they did it. They didn’t, so you don’t worry about it.

Alright, so tell me why they still haven’t verified my financial aid eligibility? It’s been nearly 3 months since I told them I don’t have it and yet they’re still not processing it.

Flushing…Hofstra does not guarantee to meet full need of all accepted students. How much aid do you need? Did you get an estimated award?

Call them on MONDAY…make sure you check your student link to be sure your aid was not yet posted.

Another thing…your FAFSA was filed using a “will file” status…because you had not filed your taxes. It is very possible that the school will not process your financial aid until you have updated the FAFSA indicating that your taxes are completed.

To be honest…this should have been done at the beginning of February. The year you are a college freshman is not the time to wait until April 15 to complete your taxes.

Call the school tomorrow.

I filed everything. Everything is finished. All of the schools i got into completed the financial aid process. I completed my fafsa January 31st. Changed the “will file” to filed. It’s just now Hofstra, which is the school that I am considering, brought up this schedule e thing again.

Since you are probably not in charge of your family finances, I suggest you ask your parents to follow up with Hofstra, since they are the ones Hofstra is going to want money from. Maybe there is other information that only your parents know the details about that Hofstra needs.
