Schedule Feedback? (second semester freshman)

I know these types of threads are annoying but like first semester, I don't know about these professors or about how difficult these classes are. Could someone tell me how tough this semester is looking or if they've taken some of these classes/ had one of the professors what their experience was like?

Thanks!

MATH-M 212 "Calculus II" (4 cr) - Michael Larson

STAT-S 300 "Intro. to Applied Statistical Methods" (4 cr) - Erika Hernandez

ECON-E 212 "Intro to Macroeconomics" (3 cr) - Paul Graff

HISP-S 280 "Spanish Grammar in Context" (3 cr) - Staff

BUS-A 201 "Intro to Financial Accounting" (3 cr) - Julie Head

BUS-G 202 "Corporate Social Strategy" (2 cr) - Steven Kreft

You are taking finite and calculus both this semester? I thought that would be a tough semester but the classes you have listed for spring semester are even more difficult. I would not take such difficult grading classes if I were trying to get accepted to Kelley. It seems way too risky. Kelley does not like grades less than a solid B for acceptance.

I would definitely not take A201 until after getting into Kelley. Two four-credit math classes in one semester along with a fifth-semester foreign language class seems difficult, too. You could look at taking an easy distribution option elective or two to make your schedule less difficult and save the harder classes for next year.

I’m not overly worried about M-212 as I have a pretty decent Calc background, and I had AP stats last year so the stats shouldn’t be that bad.

Is Spanish 280 really that difficult? I hear people complain about it a lot, but honestly, spanish can only get so hard, right?

I’ll keep that in mind about A201. I honestly don’t know any freshman or non-kelley people signing up for it so you’re probably right.

And does anyone know how difficult G202 “corporate social strategy” is?

I really enjoyed G202 and thought it was easy, but some people I know hated it. In general it is just remembering case studies you read for class and basic microeconomics.

Econ with Graf was fun for me (he brings in candy, offers a little bit of extra credit, makes the class interesting).

Never gone past Calc I, but I heard II is hard.

I took A201 at a community college, but if you are good at thinking logically and in the right order then it shouldn’t be too bad.

Stats is stats; its gonna be similar material as K310 and E370, and pretty dull.

I would definitely drop something since that puts you at 19 credits…

None of those classes you need to get into Kelley anyway. I’m not saying take all stupid gen eds (which is what my friend is doing- rock climbing, X220, X104, sports management and sociology). But why take so many (especially difficult) classes? You may have a solid background in some of these areas, but ultimately there’s only so many hours in a day you have to go to class, do homework, and study.

I already have Finite, A100 and K201 done and I tested out of W131, so I’m set as far as getting the classes needed for Kelley.

Honestly, not trying to sound pretetious, the classes I had this semester (A100, Finite, K201, Econ-E201, Telecom 206, X104) were all too easy. I never had to study and I’m still probably gonna get a 4.0 assuming the finite final goes well. I just kind of want to feel more challenged.

But the Gen-Eds for COAS; if I was D.A. to COAS but hope to get into Kelley (and assuming i get in), do I still have to take COAS classes (topics class, N&M, S&H, etc) because I was originally in COAS or not?

That you are in COAS now by itself won’t have any effect on meeting Kelley graduation requirements. What matters is the classes you take. Most Kelley students do the 27 credit hour distribution option to apply to Kelley graduation requirements (as in your TEL T206 class being one A&H class). These credits all come from COAS courses.

Distribution option courses and the areas they apply to (A&H, S&H, and N&M) start on page 373

Also, you should apply to Hutton Honors College early next semester if your first semester gpa is over 3.7 so that you can take honors classes in both the COAS and Kelley during your sophomore year. This will give you a lot more options for more challenging classes with IU’s top students in COAS and Kelley.

That schedule is pretty strong and this is coming from someone that a really hard Spring of my Soph year. What I would do is drop S300 or M212 and take X220, that is unless you do not want much free time at all.

I had Head and Kreft. I like Head a lot, but Kreft was not my type of teacher but he was entertaining at times.

You and everyone else told me to drop S300, so I did haha
