Okay, I've made up my mind that I want to try to transfer into the AEM program in CALS. I got into Cornell as a Bio + Society major. However, I have no clue what courses I should take for my first semester! Can anyone with experience give me a hand? I would greatly appreciate it.

Also, I can get credit for Calc AB, but I was considering taking it anyway. I can get credit for Macroeconomics as well.

Thanks for the help so far! I e-mailed the AEM department last night and got an extremely helpful response (sarcasm): “(sic)You be interested in Micro, Macro, or AEM 2400 (marketing for Fall enrollment)”. I am having trouble deciding if I should take credit for Macroeconomics or not? Also, I suppose I won’t take credit for Calc since I have to take math anyway. What are some other options for science besides Intro to Bio/Bio Lecture/Labs?

no offense, but the AEM professors/faculty know that there are a ton of people who look to transfer to AEM once they get into cornell, getting in the backdoor way. of course they’re not going to be too helpful (in the hold-your-hand type of way) - especially when the answers to your questions are on either the AEM website or the CALS.

Ah okay, thanks for the help. I don’t really consider myself getting in the back way (got into CAS as a Bio + Society major with like all ECs directed towards it, and I truly wanted to go into the field when I applied, but I realized all the negative ramifications of a career in that, but I suppose it’s hard for them to tell). Now I guess my question is, what courses would you suggest would be best for me from the AEM requirements?

Am I allowed to take AEM 1200 as a fall freshman? Also, am I better off substituting my Bio or Psych class with Micro/Macro? Thanks, those are my last questions.

Sorry, I wasn’t trying to act annoying, I’ve just been frustrated because I’ve spent hours on end trying to figure out my schedule with no avail. I suppose I will have to settle with Marketing…which seems like a pretty tough course for someone jumping right into it.

There is no guarantee that you will be transferred into AEM, so you should try to schedule your class based on your current major also. I saw a lot of posts that started out as “I decide to transfer to AEM”, the reality is that everyone can decide anything, but it does not mean you will always get what you want. Not try to discourage or something, have plan B is always a good thing.

It’s funny that you mentioned that Resurgam because I was actually considering transferring into cals and going for an AEM minor if I’m not accepted. Also, I don’t know if I could ever try to transfer into another business school; I love Cornell and personally hate UPenn haha. Believe me, I realize the odds are against me, I would just like to give it a go :).
