In the upcoming school year I'll be in 9th grade and taking Calc BC online (FLVS) since my school doesn't offer it. Because of this, I'll have an extra period. I'm wondering what would be the best thing to do with this period. Should I, if possible, spend it in the computer lab to work on my calc class? If I do that, should I take AP CS A or Physics Honors online at home (FLVS doesn't offer AP Physics)? If not, should I take Chem Honors during this period and take calc at home, or something else, like an elective?

Is there already time alloted on your schedule for Calc BC? I am also taking calc BC as an online course next year and thats what I have (although I am going to be a senior not a freshman smarty pants). I would say since you havent experienced high school classes yet just take it easy your freshman year amd dont overload yourself, take the free time and use it for Calc. Honestly, what else are you going to do for math after this besides maybe AP stats. You will have plently of time the next 3 years to take your other classes. Also have you taken Calc AB yet or are you just doing BC right away?

Talk to some of the top students in your high school and get their opinion on the freshman workload for the classes you are taking. Also consider how much time your extracurricular activities will take. We don’t know these things so I think you need to find out what it will be like for you at your particular school with your classes and activities to know if you will need that study hall time.

Agree with @mathyone, you need to feel out high school first and know what other activities you will be doing on top of rigorous schoolwork

I’m not sure if there’s time allotted in my schedule yet; I signed up for the class a few days ago and my guidence couselor hasn’t responded to my e-mail yet, so I’m not sure what exactly will happen. I’m not too worried about overwhelming myself since I’ve already taken some high school classes and science/math is my area of imterest. I’m going straight to BC and am planning to dual-enroll in my local CC, where I’ll be able to take higher level math classes.

Oh look, it’s one of those florida residents. So lucky you get free online classes .-.

If the time is not a concern, I would look for another class to take in school. Have you ever taken an online class? Personally I would avoid it unless you really want to take that course and the only way you can do it is online. Chem honors or an elective might work. Physics makes sense to take with calculus if you are able to take that, but I think you are better off with a live class than an online one.

I took Geometry and Pre-Calc online and did well, so there’s no worry. I would definitely take BC in-school if I could, but they don’t offer it and probably wouldn’t let me take it if they did.

I think I’ll take chemistry this year. That way I’ll be able to take AP Biology next year.

You’re taking calcus bc as a freshmen?? wow… at my school, the highest track in math doesn’t take calc bc until senior year.

Usually there isn’t any special track for taking Calculus BC as a freshman, because hardly any high schools offer math classes above that. You’d have to sort of devise your own plan.
