Hi,

My D is going to the June orientation and it looks like she will have to travel by herself. So I'm thinking that we might try to get her a flight early the first morning and have her fly back once orientation is done on the second day. But to do that, we need to know what their schedule is. From the email she's received, we don't know what time it starts or ends. Does anyone out here know?

I can certainly call USC on Monday. I'm not sure if there's a dedicated orientation office.

You might find answers to many of your questions here:

[Welcome to the USC Orientation Programs Website](http://sait.usc.edu/orientation/parents/)

We haven’t gone to orientation yet, but I called to ask when we could leave on Day 2 and they said after 5pm. Not sure how long it will take to get from USC to LAX on a Friday afternoon. Anybody care to venture a guess, and by what means (taxi, shuttle)?

BTW, the website indicates that the first two June sessions are already full.

on the orientation website, under “sample schedules” and then freshman, it says check in starts at 7:15 and goes on until 8:15 Orientation “ends” the next day at 5pm. When i mean ends, i mean that before it’s just academic advisement and idk for how long that will go.

^ THAT SEEMS MORE INFORMATIVE :)

I checked out that site and looking at schedules it looks like the earliest flights from Denver get her to LAX at around 7:50 to 8:00 a.m. depending on airline. So that’s pushing the 8:15 - 8:30 start time for Thursday.
I’ll have to call the orientation number to find out how big a problem that will be. It would be nice to not have to add the complexity of staying over night the night before because that will force one of us parents to come along this time and I want to save the flight and time off for move in week.
She’s been there before for Explore so it won’t be her first time on campus.

2girlz- what about letting D do the on campus early arrival night? She would be housed with another student with just the cost of the dorm room? I think it said they have a dinner ($15) and evening activity- sounded good for kids traveling lohg distance.

They offer an Early Arrival option for a fee, so she can come the afternoon before Orientation starts and stay in campus housing.

Below is a sample schedule for the 2 day orientation. As you can see, arriving a couple of hours late will not ruin the experience.

The highly important 2nd day class registration session lasts until the student has her/his schedule completed. They can leave after that, and my son left around 3pm.
