Hello! Alright so I am currently signed up to take 4 AP classes next year along with my elective which is the school newspaper work period. I am considering adding the class Human Anatomy. I plan to potentially go into a medical career and this could undoubtedly give me some knowledge that would help me in the future. However, I am currently taking AP Bio and my teacher heavily emphasizes anatomy (we have memorized every bone and all the features on it). Anatomy may be partially review for me. Especially with college apps coming up, would it be a better use of time to have a free period rather than take Anatomy which could be partially review?
Thanks for taking a look at this! :’)
Unless your school is on trimesters or does block scheduling, 5 courses seems a bit light on the rigor side, but it would be evaluated in the context of your school. Anatomy has many many more topics than in covered in AP Bio. As a class on it’s own, it’s not particularly rigorous, but combined with 4 APs and an interest in the topic, it’s fine. But it’s up to you. If you can’t handle the workload, definitely don’t add a class that could but your grades in others classes in jeopardy.
Also, you also need to consider your hidden class in the Fall - College Applications and Essays. Rising seniors always underestimate the workload involved.
What classes are you taking beside school newspaper and perhaps Human Anatomy?
Not what you’re asking, I know.
But why not get the college apps and essays done over the summer?
And I agree–your elective sounds like code for “extra curricular.” So you’re taking 4 academic classes.
And if the two classes were as redundant as you think I doubt the school would offer both. There are bound to be some pretty significant differences between them.
Are you taking Math, English, Science, History? have you gotten through teh 4th level of a foreign language?
If so, then A&P fits very nicely with AP Bio. When my DD took AP Bio, the teacher (who also taught A&P) encouraged her to take A&P as well.
However, A&P is not needed for pre-med…but it can’t hurt to have some background in that area.
Definitely get a head start on college apps:
