Hey I was wondering if you guys could help me with a scheduling question. I'm a rising junior but this question pertains to my senior schedule.
I was wondering if I should continue to take Spanish (IV) or if I should drop it senior year to take a year of human biology? I want to eventually go to medical school but I'm not sure if having 4 years of a language is more important. If it matters at all I'd rather take the human bio but if Spanish will help me as far as rigor I would forgo the biology class.
My senior schedule would be AP lit, required religion, AP Calc AB, AP Physics, AP Government, Yearbook, and then either Spanish 4 or human bio.

So in short is a 4th year of a language more important than a class that correlates to what I want my career to be?

drop yearbook and take both? but i’d chose human biology over spanish 4 ( I want to be a Doctor also)

Yeah I agree with Weeknd. Drop Yearbook if you want to. But if you don’t, take Human Biology. That class is a little gateway into the medical field.

Wouldn’t knowing another language give you a leg-up when applying for medical school? Because it’s not like all your patients will speak English.

I’ll be editor of the yearbook if I keep it so I figured it could serve as an added leadership type position

I guess taking another language will benefit admission for undergraduate. You have to take the prerequisites in college anyway, which will include more and interesting things than human biology Besides, medical schools don’t care what you take in high school.

I know medical schools don’t look at high school I meant it more for introducing myself to anatomy and possible exposing myself to topics covered in undergrad. Plus I prefer sciences to Spanish, hands down.

you should do what you prefer, not what colleges may want

How do you feel about Spanish? If you don’t enjoy taking a language, then I don’t think you should take it. However, keep in mind that many colleges will require (or at least recommend) 4 years of a language. There will be plenty of time to take human biology when you’re in college, and it’s not like you’re gonna get college credit anyways, so you’d have to retake the class… I would do Spanish.

I know medical school wont see your HS transcript, but I was just thinking dropping a language might hurt you in the long run.
