Schedule help

Should I take AP physics or Band?
I love taking part in band but recently some of my friends graduated from band and aren’t there anymore. But I am section leader and I have been in band since 6th grade. I can only choose AP physics or quit band since band is the last hour of the day and recently AP physics takes the last two hours of the day with notes being one hour and labs for another. I really need help since I need a answer by Wednesday since school ends this week.

What year are you in HS? What’s your intended college major? What other science courses have you taken? What does the rest of your schedule look like?

FWIW, I hate when schools do their scheduling so that students need to choose academics OR music. I wish there weren’t those conflicts!

Wow, that’s a hard decision to make.

I’m currently going to be a senior next year and I have taken biology, chemistry, anatomy and going to maybe take forensics as well next year. I plan to major something in medicine since I plan on being a physician or neurosurgeon. My schedule for next year is tentatively AP calculus, AP literature, accounting, drawing and painting, maybe yearbook and maybe forensics but I need to make decision on whether to do band or AP physics.

Ap physics for your intended major. You need to show rigor and don’t you need the physics, chemistry, biology trifecta for graduation? See if there is another way to get music in your life. Talk to the music department and see what your option are.

For graduation requirements I already have enough science credits to graduate though.? so I’m still undecided about band or AP physics.

For further help it might be helpful if you state your unweighted grade-point average and any stats like your act or sat and maybe some of the schools that you’re looking at.

Could you take Honors, or even regular, Physics and still be able to take band?

No because they got rid of regular physics for AP physics

You need some level of physics for your intended major.

You need to decide whether you’re vaguely thinking of being pre-med because you like science and like helping people, or whether you have already volunteered and shadowed to an extent where being vomited on wouldn’t surprise you and 13 more years of school sound good.

Your schedule should include AP physics if you’re certain you’ll go into medicine. If not, you should take Band since it’s a valuable and meaningful EC/class.

What you should change is the combination of accounting, art, yearbook, and forensics - none of these are core courses and they wouldn’t be considered academic. Senior year, you need 5 core courses minimum and with AP physics, AP lit, and AP calc, you only have three (2 if you take band). You’d need a foreign language unless you’ve reached level 4 (4th year) already, and a History or social science course. 4 core classes would be the absolute minimum.
Not having two more core classes would put you at a serious disadvantage in the admissions process.
