My schedule for this year is
1)AP econ/gov
2)ap lit
3)ap stats
4)newspaper honors
5)debate 3 honors
6)physics honors
7) ap environmental

I will have taken 10 aps total by the end of highschool and I'm going to be aplying to Vassar, nyu, Michigan, emory, and UF. I have an okay gpa 3.4uw/4w and really good ec's. Will dropping ap env and taking a free period look like I'm slacking off to colleges? Or would taking ap env be a good idea to make up for my mediocre gpa. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I wouldn't suggest dropping it for a free period, but maybe an elective you found interesting. That is just my opinion, if you really don't want to take another ap.
If you think you'll do well in that class then don't drop it, but if you think you won't do so great then like I said before.

Note: This is just what I would do, so yeah . . . .

If you think you'll like the class, go ahead and take it. Personally the only reason [IF ANY] that I'd take APES is for the GPA boost... simply because I'm not interested in that subject at ALL. Also, if you seriously want to boost your GPA, and you feel like you're definitely going to ace the class/exam, take it [if you want! lol].

If anything, I wouldn't do the free period - just take something fun and easier, just not a free class.

In my opinion, if you don't think you'll enjoy Environmental Science, you should take the free period. You sound like you have a lot on your plate without the fourth AP and have already taken an impressive amount of APs, so I rather doubt that colleges will think you're slacking off. Besides, having the extra time and one less class might help you boost your GPA a bit: you'll have more time to concentrate on really shining in your other classes.
