I am an incoming Freshman to Marshall and a Biochem/Chem major and these are the classes I am recommended to take:
Chem6AH
Math20B
DOC (Marshall writing course)
GE
So I was beginning to freak out today when I was seeing all my classes fill up and all 10 of my planners all become obsolete. I called the Chem department and they assured me that everyone waitlisting 6AH will get into a Chem 6AH class (sorry, no regular 6A news though). But what's really frustrating me is DOC, a required course for Marshall, is almost completely full at the moment. How can this happen if it is a required course? Anyways, would it be worth it to attempt to waitlist DOC? Because it seems like nobody should drop it since it's a TMC required class.
Math 20B seems to be almost full as well (though relatively few waitlisters) - would you recommend me waitlist a better time or chose a time that is open but completely awful for my schedule (Thursdays at 6pm just throw me off).
My main gripe is that we people who can't pick until tomorrow are paying the same amount as those who got first pick, yet we randomly got chosen to have little to no opportunity to get the classes we want. Sorry for my little rant, but it's really a very frustrating experience compared to all my friends that went to other UCs

You can take DOC winter quarter right?

OMG I LOVE YOU.
Not in that way haha. But this is pretty awesome cause I am also a biochemistry/chem major at Marshall College and I have the exact same recommended schedule as you. I am very glad to hear that everyone who waitlists Chem 6AH will get in. So will we get the slot that we enroll in or will there be other complications? Can you please give me the phone number you called to speak to the chemistry department? Please respond as soon as you can.

I definitely agree with you about the unfairness of the randomly assigned enrollment times.
Maybe I’ll have a class or two with you haha.

I am also trying to decide whether to waitlist for Mariscal or choose an open slot for Monteon. I don’t want to waitlist unless I know I can get in because I don’t want to end up without Doc 1 at all.

^ haha me too. :D

humm but they will probably open more DOC spots if they notice waitlisters.
yesterday there were only ten spots per discussion and they raised all to 12 spots (even though monteon had quite a few discussions open).

@KingsElite Sort of. It’s a 3 quarter class that starts in fall (doc1) and goes through winter (doc 2) and ends in spring (doc3). i can’t just start it in winter because they want the continuity.

@clairafornia By will i meant that he was very adamant and made sure that he was completely sure that I understood that Chem 6AH waitlisters will all get in. Yeah I was soooo happy when I heard that too. And by the way the schedules are looking now, it’s very likely we’ll have a very similar schedule because all the other classes are full haha

And in case you are looking for that 4th class that will fulfill a GE, check out Anthropology. it’s got like 70 spots open

I edited my post!
Haha awesomeeeee. You made my day!!!
What GE requirement does Anthropology fill & what’s the course code/title? I’ll look into it. I was thinking of taking HILD 10 for humanities requirement. That class is open as well.

Anthropology is under… anthropology. Try ANTH1 though it conflicts with Monteon’s DOC discussion. And I just looked it up and I guess it counts as elective credits. I thought I saw somewhere that it counted to fulfill one of the requirements for this thing called a “Disciplinary Breadth” I’ll try and find it for you.
And I called 858-534-6870 for the chem dept.

http://marshall.ucsd.edu/pdfs/GE_SHEET.pdf

Here. It’s under the section called “Disciplinary Breadth”

DB… that’s what I thought. I want to want Chinese lang (need to have an interview for placement) and dance for that but thanks for the suggestion.
Hey you know how one of the DB classes require an approved class involving significant writing, right? I clicked on the link but it’s invalid. Do you know which courses are approved?

Thank you again. My name is Claire in case we meet each other during class or something hah. I’m assuming your name is Ryan Muir? xD

Yeah it is. How’d you guess?
But anyways, it’s just difficult because I want Mariscal because I’ve heard he’s better and the timing would be way better for all the possibilities I have for that 4th class. Eh we’ll see. This has been one of the most stressful days of my summer haha.
Oh and you know how they open up the 2 spots for DOC? Well since all the people that could choose early never had a cutoff time, they all took the spots for Mariscal already :(

i recommend you keep a lookout for opening for Mariscal. they open up more spots at random times, and if you’re lucky, you can quickly drop and add the other. thats what i did hahah
