Schedule Issues

Hello,

I am currently a freshman. My current schedule is:

Honors Alg. 2 w/ Trig
Spanish III
World History
English 9
Honors Biology
German III

I do love taking Spanish and German both, but I also like the sciences. Most students after Bio take AP Bio. Many also take Chemistry the same year, so they can take AP Chem the year after, if they are really interested in science. However, if I would like to do that, I’d need to drop either German or Spanish. If I were to do that, would that look bad in the long run with college?

Also, If I were to drop Spanish next year but took the SAT II on it or AP test, would that make up for dropping it to make room for chemistry?

In a perfect world, I’d take both Spanish, German, and Chemistry/AP Bio.

Thanks.

No

No. More to point, colleges will not view dropping Spanish as a negative. Most colleges want a rigorous course load that includes the recommended amount of years (3-4) of English, math, science, social studies/history, and foreign language. While many students double up on one subject, few double up on two. It’s almost impossible, especially if the HS has other graduation requirements like arts, PE, health. religion, etc. Colleges know that not every class can fit into a student’s schedule.
