Schedule of classes at Harvard

How many classes per semester do students take at Harvard? I'm asking because I'm wondering if it would be possible to take two languages.

4 classes. and they have a system of how you choose which classes

There really is no system. Freshman year is a bit more restrictive, since there's a language requirement, expository writing requirement, and the freshman seminar option. However, past freshman year, the only requirement is that you must take AT LEAST 3 classes per semester and no more than 6 (though 6 requires special permission and 4 (as eating food mentions) is the average). Other than that, you have to complete a certain number of general education courses (currently know as the CORE) and whatever your concentration requirements are.

Other than that, there's not special system for course selection.

And yes, you can study 2 languages (or more if you're so inclined), though probably not during freshman year.

One of my friends is getting two language citations (a language citation requires two years of study beyond the intro level). It means that most, if not all, of her electives are language classes, but it's definitely doable... especially if you have it in mind from the beginning.

I had a chemistry friend major who took all his elective courses in foreign languages. He managed to take a couple of years of Greek, Spanish, German, Russian and Hebrew. Things may have changed, but I usually took five courses a term when only four are required. It shouldn't be hard to add another language - depending on just what they do when the finalize the newest permutation of core curriculum requirements. That said, I wouldn't start off taking five first term freshman year however.
