Schedule of Classes for 2015 freshman!!!

I am a newly admitted undergrad, and I am really confused about scheduling of classes!

I haven't found any information that would kind of guide me through this. Please someone help me out! Maybe highlight me the procedure or even send me a couple of links.

I appreciate it very much.

You’ll learn everything you need and more at orientation. If you have specific questions, those would be easier to answer.

Thanks for replying!

Do you mean that we don’t schedule our classes during the summer but do it at the orientation?

I registered for the second to the last orientation, does that kind of mean that I have a slim chance of getting into those very popular classes?

Yes you will sign up for all of your fall quarter classes at orientation. In future quarters, you will be randomly assigned sign-up times according to your class standing based on units. Yes, you will be a bit of a disadvantage with the popular classes unless spaces are reserved for each orientation session (Eng Comp 3, GE Clusters, Chem 14A, etc.). GEs will be harder to find that are interesting as well.

I did found out that, fortunately, that popular classes are evenly distributed throughout all the orientations, so I guess I still have a chance of getting the classes i want.

Can undergards choose from all the courses listed in the general catalog?

Would we be able to sign up for clusters by other means?

Yes you can sign up for pretty much any class except for ones that have pre-reqs that you need to have satisfied. A lot of the popular classes will be filled before you even have a chance of signing up by the upperclassmen though.

And you have to get into the lottery at orientation for GE clusters. Maybe after all the orientation sessions are done and people drop or there are extra spaces then you can sign up for them.

Do we get to try out classes? like walking into classes and see if we like them before we actually enroll.

No not really. You can sign up for more classes and then drop one or two within the first two weeks without any penalty. Most classes will be full and will be difficult for you to walk in on the first day and see if you like it then add it later.
