Schedule Questions, planning to major in Applied Math & minor in CS

So, I'm going to be a freshman hoping to major in Applied Math & minor in CS, and I have no idea which classes I need to take. I've been told it's good to have a tentative schedule going into student orientation, so I need help figuring out which classes to take. To start off, I think Ill be wavering all if not most of the basic freshman year courses because of earning 30+ points on my IB diploma and I'd like to assume for now Ill get out of the basic math classes that are waived with a 5 on the calc bc ap test. So with that established, what should I be looking to register for? Thanks to anyone who can reply!

Try the old Math 1A and 1B final exams to make sure that you know the material well.
<a href=“Mathematics Courses - Tau Beta Pi, California Alpha Chapter”>https://tbp.berkeley.edu/courses/math/</a></p>

Note that there is some introductory differential equations material in Math 1B that you may have to self-study before the latter part of Math 54.

Assuming that you have Math 1A and 1B covered, you will need the following (with C or higher grades) before declaring the applied math major:
Math 53 or H53
Math 54 or H54
Math 55 (or CS 70 if you are double majoring with CS)
(see Majoring in Mathematics | Department of Mathematics at University of California Berkeley; )

For the L&S CS major, you need (with a 3.0 GPA in them):
CS 61A or 61AS
CS 61B
CS 61C
CS 70
Math 54 or H54
(see <a href=“CS Major Information | EECS at UC Berkeley”>CS Major Information | EECS at UC Berkeley; )

There are L&S requirements as well: http://ls-advise.berkeley.edu/requirement/summary.html</a>
Note that some can be fulfilled by your major. For example, CS 61C will fulfill the physical science part of the 7-course breadth, and there are math courses in the social and behavioral sciences, philosophy and values, and historical studies parts of the 7-course breadth (though any one department can be used for at most two parts).

Make a list of 5 or more courses that you would like to take. That way, you can choose whatever 4 you get into. Suggested courses for your first semester:

CS 61A (if you have absolutely no computing experience, you may want to start with CS 10)
one or two of the following: Math 53, H53, 54, H54; CS 70
one or two courses for other L&S requirements like reading and composition, 7-course breadth

30+ on the IB gives you 20 units, so you only need 100 units to graduate… but it doesn’t exempt you from all, or even most, freshman year / lower div courses. I don’t even think a 30+ score automatically gets you out of a single class as far as I know.

Specific IB scores may give you subject credit:

HL English Literature (A1), 5+ = L&S reading and composition A and B

HL Math, ask math and CS departments, probably Math 1A and 1B for high enough score

HL second language A2 or B or SL second language (non-English), 5+ = L&S foreign language requirement
