This is not an urgent issue, I’m just looking through my portal and information of what I’ll have to do in the future.
I understand that I’ll have to attend SOAR to register for classes. I’ve read that people prepare for that by putting classes in their “shopping cart.” How do they know what classes to put. My major is organismal biology. Here’s a link with every class I need to take:

Which classes am I supposed to pick first? And I’m supposed to have GE classes in my schedule too right?
I’m sorry, I’m just really confused. If you could please give me as much information about schedules relating to incoming freshmen. Any related information would be nice, thank you in advance
Also, how many classes should I even take?
Most Freshman will take at least 2 GE’s and 2-3 Major prep/Major classes. As an in-coming Freshman, I would start off with 4 classes 1st semester, just to get into the swing of things.
I would consider taking 2 of your major classes such as Biol 211 (since it is a 3 course series) and one of the Calculus classes either Math 119A or Math 122.
Most likely you should take 2 GE’s such an Oral communication or Writing Class along with another GE to fulfill the other GE categories.
CSULB does not use RoadMaps anyone but on-line major planner, but below is a link for a Biology major Roadmap for 4 years to give you an idea how to plan out your courses.

When you attend SOAR, you should be given a personalized course planner that should show required GE courses, any AP credit which could allow you to opt out of some of the classes and major class suggestions. You will meet with an advisor and then help you come up with a class schedule.
