Okay, I know that my Preview group leader went over this, but I didn't understand what she was talking about until now.

I signed up for three classes that meet M W R 1, 2, 3 periods, and they also meet on Tuesdays at completely separate times, something like.. periods 2, 5 and 8. Do those classes then meet every single Tuesday? I remember the adviser describing those days as like.. test days? I can't remember what they are about.

Also, I got stuck with a Chem lab from periods 11-E2 on Mondays, how much is that going to suck? Has anyone else had a lab that late in the evening? It doesn't seem like I could do that much concentrating, especially if I were busy studying for other classes or even at work before then.

Thanks for any and all input, I'm trying to get this figured out before the drop-add period starts. =)

Yea, those classes will meet MTWR every week. The Tuesday meeting is usually the "discussion" section of the course where the professor or TA (usually a TA) goes over problems and what not related to lecture. It is an open-ended period where you ask questions and go over concepts discussed in lecture. Quizzes for the course are usually given during this section. The exams are usually given at night at some scheduled period.

Chem lab at night can have its advantages, it's probably a smaller section so you get more attention from your TA if you are confused about some lab procedure. IMO lab sucks in general, the time frame isn't going to make it better.

Note that 1st period is 7:25 in the morning.

If you let me know what your courses are, I can give you more a detailed response.

The choices for lab periods were limited; it was either early in the morning or at night. I have chm 2046L at 8:30 in the morning and i don't know how awake i will be but i can manage.

How can one go about changing teachers? Do you just choose a different section with another teacher? I have Horvath for chem and i heard his teaching is difficult to understand and i just keep reading bad things.
Also, can we modify our schedule right now or do we have to wait until aug 1st?

If there are seats opened in another section that you want, just drop the section you're in and add the one you want. After preview, you are given some registration time where you can change your schedule before the start of classes (Aug. 22). During the first week of classes (which is the drop-add period for Fall/Spring), you have that entire week to adjust your schedule. You will be given registration times during that week as well, but you will have the chance to change your schedule every day.

I'm taking CHM2046 MWF 4th as well and am hoping whoever told you Horvath was teaching that period is wrong, lol. We'll see. I know on the Registrar website, it still says Staff listed.

YES you are right, i just checked on my book list and no instructor is listed. I mistakenly looked at the list for the lab and he is the instructor for that. I guess he is the lab supervisor. This is great though let's just hope he is not teaching our class.

That's what I was hoping had happened! Yeah, Horvath Supervises the Labs for CHM2045 and 2046 but he never is actually there, he just makes the lab manuals, etc. Most of the instructors in the Labs are TAs. I'm just hoping he doesn't teach our period, haha.

I'm still a tad confused about my schedule. For example, im taking a 2 credit course but it is scheduled as TR 6-7 .
Would that mean I go to that class for 2 hours on two days? ( a total of 4 hrs a week??)

Thanks for all the help guys. I really appreciate it.

I have Horvath for CHM2045 M W F 1st period and I recently looked him up on ratemyprofessor. I'm going to try so hard to switch to a different teacher. I also have an apparently crazy teacher, Joos, for Intro to Sociology. A lot of people had said that she teaches that class more like a graduate level class than a regular gen-ed.

Also, I know that 1st period starts at 7:25 in the morning, but I've taken college classes that early in the morning before, I'm actually more awake then than I am later in the day. =)

This is to sobe55. Yes, if it says on your schedule to meet TR 6-7 then you will see the class for 4 hours a week even if it is a 2 credit class. A lot of science classes at UF meet more often than what you get credit for i.e. Labs that are 3 hours long when you get 1 credit for them, but I'm sure other schools are the same.

Credit hours aren't always a direct indicator on hours spent in lecture.

They usually give you a decent idea about the amount of work you should be expecting from that class, though... The theory being, a 3 credit class will take less time and effort than a 4 credit... But its really all very professor dependent.
